Nah man, were good with Franky wheels. Fits our team a lot better than Goodrow and a couple picks.

NAIl YAKUPOV first 3 seasons on a terrible team:

2012-13 Edmonton Oilers NHL 48 17 14 31 -4
2013-14 Edmonton Oilers NHL 63 11 13 24 -33
2014-15 Edmonton Oilers NHL 81 14 19 33 -35

LAFFY first three seasons on an amazing team:

2020-21 New York Rangers NHL 56 12 9 21 -7
2021-22 New York Rangers NHL 79 19 12 31 2
2022-23 New York Rangers NHL 81 16 23 39 10

Hell even KK:

2018-19 Montreal Canadiens NHL 79 11 23 34 1
2019-20 Montreal Canadiens NHL 36 6 2 8 -11
2020-21 Montreal Canadiens NHL 56 5 15 20 -1
2021-22 Carolina Hurricanes NHL 66 12 17 29 3
2022-23 Carolina Hurricanes NHL 82 18 25 43 10

He is not worth more than Any guys out of the top 7 in this year's draft.

tbf, Laffy is the only one who you listed who has shown consistent growth. I wouldn't do that trade either, buts its not as bad as we think

Frank Vatrano is a year younger than Goodrow, is signed for two more seasons instead of 4, and on a team which some subtle indications suggest was weaker than the Rangers, scored 33% more points. Since we have SIX draft picks ahead of the Colorado third, that isn't sufficient incentive for us to make this deal.

Oh definitely not - and NYR dev has been horrible. But he is not worth a king's ransom.

Not defending the trade in any way, because it's bad for the Ducks, but offensively you are kind of comparing an apple to an orange. Being on a much weaker team meant that Frankie got quite a few more minutes per game than Goodrow did and a lot more PP minutes. Pts/60 at even strength they were basically the same. Vatrano *should* be playing 14 minutes not 17 and killing penalties rather than trying to score on them.

And ultimately that's the problem for the Rangers here. There's just no reason for us to swap these two players when doing so results in getting a bad value contract due to the term difference.

But the fact that he gets more minutes is irrelevant if the team is noticeably weaker, i.e., less likely to score.

The Rangers scored 273 goals this season. The Avalanche and Kings scored 274. Now if Vatrano played on either of the latter teams, then the fact that he got more minutes would cancel the difference in points between him and Goodrow. Anaheim scored 206 goals this season -- almost one goal per game less. So the fact that Vatrano even equalled Goodrow's production is a miracle.

Total team goals is too simplistic though, because if Goodrow is sitting on the bench while NY's top line or PP is tearing it up none of those goals matter. You are right though in the sense that TOI and quality of line mates both factor in. I don't know who Goodrow played with most of the season and I don't care enough to figure that out. It's not worth the effort because this isn't a good trade for the Ducks and we agree on that.
