Wings pass. This is essentially a 1st and two seconds. Which is more than what Ottawa paid. Everyone knows Debrincat won’t sign long term in Ottawa so the Sens leverage is weak. You’ll be lucky to just get a 1st and a 2nd for him.

Not really. You’re forgetting that it was 7 + 39 and now it’s 18 + 43. Plus the option of him re-signing in a sign and trade

You’re forgetting this is a deeper draft. A lot of guys who will go in the 2nd this year would be 1st round picks in other drafts. Korchinski was taken with that 7th overall pick. He’d be lucky to crack top 20 in this years draft.

I don't see why the sign and trade matters? Stevie doesn't do a trade like this unless he's already worked a deal out. Yeah but Hanas was a 55. So it is a 1st and 2 2nds. He also is developing quite nicely. I'm a Hanas stan so I wouldn't want him in the trade anyway

I’m also not that big on Debrincat. He’s good in offence but not in his own zone, can’t kill penalties, what’s the point in him scoring two goals if 3 are scored while he’s playing defence?

Id rather give up a 1st, 2nd, Hanas and another piece and go after Kyle Conner.

A retained Hellebuyck and Lowry (heart and soul of this Jets team) would require a bigger haul than this in my opinion. 1st and two 2nds are obviously great but I don't think Joseph or Hanas move the needle and we already have our very own Lassi Thomson (Ville Heinola). It's very unlikely that Lowry would be moved but I think WPG would target other pieces in a Hellebuyck trade.

Connor is not as bad. He also makes 7.1m a year. Cat is going to want 9m a year it’s reported. Screw that.

Connor is better than Cat and will make 2m less per year for the next 3 seasons. Hence his value is higher.

Saying a 40 goal scorer isnt a massive asset?!? Wings fans here are weird. Massively overrate the mystery box. Debrincat is a much better asset than PLD yet these same Wings fans say Habs should give more. Make it, make sense.

Wings should accept this deal. they could at worst flip him at the deadline or almost the same price.

Send the same offer to the Habs and they easily accept.

Think a lot of it is that a price has sorta been set for DeBrincat, and he just got worse (albeit, still a great player) + more expensive from that point.

Tbh switch the 2nd to a 3rd and I'm fine with it. Or, better yet, add some meh picks for that downward trending RD prospect of yours.

I will state I'm not THAT big on Hanas as others. He seems fine, but I think he tops as a bottom 9 guy.

18 + 43 has way more value in a deeper draft than the 7 + 39 and it's not even close.

I think if Yzerman can get Debrincat for that, lock him up longterm, go sign like another veteran in free agency he will do that .

A 40 goal scorer is not an asset when 60 goals will be scored against as a direct result of that player constantly botching his defensive assignments, losing puck battles, getting pushed around by larger opponents. 40 goals looks fancy on the stat sheets but if he's not helping you win games in the long run...what's the point. For every 2 goals he scores, 3 goals are going in your own net. I'd rather have a guy who scores 20 goals a season but actually backchecks his ass off, can win battles on the boards and knows how to keep the puck out of his own net. over a guy who scores 40 goals but floats everywhere else. Not to mention for the cap hit the 40 goal scorer will command, you could afford two of those 20 goal guys who can play defense. suddenly you have your 40 goals but coming from two players instead of one and they're both responsible defensively while Ottawa is strapped with their one 40 goal guy being lazy on defense. same amount of goals for, but less overall goals against. Make it make sense you asked. Does it make sense now?
