Hawks decline. You think they're gonna take on 5 mil for just a 4th rounder??? the trade starts with a 2nd rounder at least

The Isles do seem like a team in need of offense and PP help so targeting Olofsson has a lot of logic as does the return of a mid-round 2nd pick.......however, if the Sabres are retaining 50% to help the Isles' cap situation, I think another pick like a 3rd would have to be included as well.

I wouldn't give up more than a 2nd for 2 reasons - he's mainly just a PP guy, secondly, he'll be in his last year at $4,750,000 and will want a big contract and I'm not sure he's worth a big contract.

Have you seen the Isles' trainwreck of a powerplay? They need all the help they can get.

I do, but he's not a game changer....to me he's just a PP player. Not worth 2 picks.

He actually had 21 even strength goals this season. He's not really just a PP specialist, he's just not great defensively. He has an elite one-timer which is why he's useful on the PP, but he is still an above average shooter with any of his shot types. He got labeled a PP specialist because his 1st 2 seasons he had more PP goals than 5v5, but much of that was due to the garbage system Kreuger ran which completely stifled 5v5 scoring. If a team has the defensive structure to help cover his defensive lapses they would get a guy who can absolutely score, and has a knack for finding the gaps to get his shot off. Buffalo just doesn't have players who are good enough defensively to offset his poor defensive play.

Not disagreeing on the value, I think a 2nd is fair. But I do think he has carried that PP specialist label a bit unfairly after showing the past 2 seasons he can score 5v5.

Actually, he's not that much anymore - yes, he made his mark in his first 2 seasons on the PP but if you check his stats from this past season, you'll see that most of his production came 5-on-5 (he was taken off the 1st PP early in the season once Thompson proved to have the same kind of shot and the kids started to get his PP time on the 2nd unit).

Don't forget who's the Isles' GM - starting with that Horvat trade and contract.

We don't have cap room for his contract the following season. Next season we have to sign to big contract Sorokin and Dobson. So Olofsson unless we are moving significant salary, he's not a fit regardless.
