Montreal can buyout, take with retention or just let Hoffman's contract expire we don't need cap space, so there is no reason to do this

I'm not saying the LVK are FORCED into anything, but the cap situation is pretty rough. $3M in cap space with (4) RFAs still needing to get paid. Getting $5.25M off the books would be a good thing AND gives Hague an opportunity to fill a larger role.

Montreal has no reason to make that deal - they don't need cap space for next season. Hawks don't make the Bailey deal. Don't think they take him for a 3rd and if they did, Mitchell doesn't go back to NY. Wilde has less than zero value. Martinez isn't waiving to finish his career in Chicago. Best Toronto gets in a Murray trade is the Rangers '23 2nd or Chicago's '23 3rd. But don't see Hawks doing this trade either.

Funny is I listen to a lot of hockey podcast, including Montreal guys and all of them suggest trading Hoffman and buying out Armia. A lot of this is to create spots for there up and coming young players while opening up a little cap space. Take it as you please. The hawks would take Bailey for the right deal, Mitchell inclusion is to provide him with a fresh new start, they have already done this with Beaudin and Barratt and got nothing back. Wilde is a RD which we dont have a good depth in Rockford so its a spot he can fill and possibly figure something out. Vegas needs to move money and i am not sure who they could move but Martinez will most likely be the guy.

That's seems to be about the same value as the Mrazek deal.

I just worry that at some point yall may run out of goalies to trade to Chicago. If that happens then our draft pick sugar daddy runs out of sweets for us!

I agree with most of this, especially regarding Wilde. Seems almost like the most irrelevant prospect a person could find to include in a trade. I disagree about the Toronto trade however. I think looking at the Mrazek trade, the OTT 2nd for the BOS 1st seems about on par for what KD would accept. He'd probably push for the NYR 2nd or CHI 3rd and may get that but I think he settles for what was offered in this scenario.

Kind of disagree that Vegas needs to move money. They have $3m in cap space w/ 21 players under contract for next season. It appears their top 6, the entire D and goalies are set. They need two bottom 6 players to fill out their roster. Should be able to do that for $3m. And I just don't see Martinez waiving his NTC for Chicago.

As for Mitchell, I can see the Hawks buying out Zaitsev (he sucks) and signing Mitchell to a new one year deal to play on 3rd pair w/ Tinordi. If he's still not cutting it after 25 or 30 games, waive him and call up Regula or Roos from Rockford.

Here's my take on these G trades. Last year, Hawks didn't have a veteran G in the organization, so Mrazak filled that role. I also think rookie GM Davidson wanted to make a splash and jump start the rebuild with as many 1st's as he could acquire. This year, Kyle has a stockpile of picks in his pocket, Hawks still have Mrazak and now a more experienced Soderblom who looks like he's ready to handle NHL ice time. Murray is not a necessity so Hawks don't make the same deal as last year - Davidson holds out for a better deal. At least I hope that's what he does!

Montreal has to give an extension to Cole Caufield. It is not like they have tons of cap space.

I get that but it is also still LTIR money, have to be under to start the season tho. LTIR money is tricky. I just see MON wanting to move on from a few guys and let the young guys create there own culture and leadership. Not a lot of teams will be calling for Hoffman @ 4.5 mil.

For what it's worth, I think Habs are gonna buyout Hoffman ($1.1m per year, over two years) and wait next year to buyout Armia. We don't have that many prospects ready to jump in Year 1, as most of our most important ones are now just graduating from the CHL. A year in Laval is perfect for their development.

It would only be an issue if Hughes wants to go over the offseason limit. As far as Hoffman goes, it should be trade with retention on buyout.
