While I don't expect the Bruins to trade him, I'd imagine a rebuild is around the corner. This is a hypothetical if the Bruins were to get back some assets they lost from going all in. Bear is not a bad player and acts as a temporary stop gap. A first round pick wouldn't hurt the Bruins either

That is actually a pretty fair offer for Carlo. I could see Boston considering it. Would shed a bit of cap and get a replacement (albeit different style) RHD.

EDIT: I like the garland trade as well. Difficult to say if Pittsbugh would be interested or not until they get a new management team in place. If they hire an analytic driven team (which would make sense given what that ownership has chosen to do with the redox) then I could see something like this as a possibility. Garland has strong analytics and 5on5 numbers. I've often thought he would be a good fit with malkin.

I know Bruins fans won't like the Carlo trade....but they do need cap, and Carlo is one guy even with his M NTC that could be traded for good value (no cap) in return.
Like the Garland trade too. Canucks are going to take similar cap back in a trade, so a trade like this can work with some team if not the Pens.

Bear is just added to large pile of bottom of the D types they already have. Their RD is so shallow that 3rd on the depth chart today is a low end prospect in jrs. It’s a terrible move for Boston.

There are half dozen guys that could be moved to create cap. Carlo isn’t one of them.

Boston ownership will never allow a rebuild. Even if it was needed.

Ownership refusing a rebuild should be very worrisome. Just leads to mediocrity (Canucks are a prime example). If Bergeron and Krejci retire, who is going to replace them? Bruins no longer have any picks or prospects to use as trade chips. They'd end up being a bubble team.

Zacha replaces DK. Nobody replaces Bergy. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Won’t be the least bit surprised if Bergy is back for 1 more. DK probably done.

Pens should have interest in Garland, but not at the expense of Pettersson.

As long as the Bruins make the playoffs, that's all ownership cares about. Doesn't matter if it's as the best team in the NHL or they make it on the part day by 1pt. True rebuilds take many years. Looking at Buffalo, Ottawa, New Jersey, Edmonton recently.

If they hire a management team big on analytics then they won’t be getting rid of Pettersson. He’s an analytic darling. I highly doubt they trade assets for someone like Garland when they can just go the free agency route and not spend assets.

Was going to make a similar comment. Pettersson has extremely strong underlying numbers. The Athletic analytic department even considered him one of the best values this season. https://twitter.com/jmarshfof/status/1620110449609179137?s=20

Pens need to keep the puck out of their net. Petterson isn't likely to leave.

PIT heavily declines. W/ Dumo most likely out, Pettersson is our Top pairing LHD w/ Tanger.

Bruins say no, they may look to recoup some assets this offseason but they won't do it at the expense of being able to compete for a playoff spot. They may trade Ullmark cause we have Swayman, maybe Hall cause Merkulov and Lysell look close to ready, maybe Grzelyck cause we have Lohrei. But RHD is easily our thinnest position, and going from Carlo to Bear is a pretty substantial downgrade.

Pens would like Garland, but Pettersson is off the table, he's not going anywhere.
