Okkkaaayyy relax now with the Toronto trade.

I think most people concluded 1st + Murray for Mid to Late 2nd round pick is reasonable.

He did it with all 3 trades. Lopsided for CHI big time

The Leafs most likely get back the Rangers '23 2nd in that Murray deal. Hawks aren't trading away 4 2nds and 6 picks total for Hall, Gryz and Laff. Hall probably doesn't waive for Chicago anyway and Gryz isn't a player they want. Laff isn't worth two 2nds and a 3rd.

Genuinely curious, what would Drury do if a team offer sheets Laf for the equivalent of a 2nd round pick: $4,200,000?

Can the Rangers still navigate the cap?

it's been proven multiple times on this website that they can.

Drury would match
Goodrow would provide the addl cap....he'd be bought out if nobody would take him in a trade
Whatever GM did that to him would have a massive bullseye on his back...what comes around goes around. I think MTL found that out.

Matching for Laf won't be the problem. The problem will be the next call where someone has dropped an offersheet on K'Andre Miller for 4 or 5 years @ 6.3 per especially if it is a team where the '24 first might not be all that attractive. Columbus (betting the injuries even out and they are much healthier and better with Miller), Seattle if they trade Dunn's rights for futures, or the Caps if they bite the bullet to dump Mantha all could use a LHD and would be taking a reasonable bet that their '24 first won't be great. 6.3 is pretty rich, but if someone loves him as a player they can take a calculated gamble that the cap is supposed to go up a good chunk next Summer and 6.3 won't mean near as much beyond year one if you can make it work.

If we are going to live in the world of "what if", how about what if Laffy signs before the RFA deadline like Chytil did? What if? But in reality, the world doesn't operate on what ifs. Offersheets are very rare and almost never successful, and usually bring back some retaliation down the line. How many goals has Sebastion Aho scored for the Habs? Because of that offer sheet, Kotkaniemi is playing for the Canes in the playoffs right now while the Habs golf. I guarantee Drury isn't losing a second of sleep over an offersheet and will sign both Laffy and Miller unless he wants to trade them. But an offer sheet threat is nonsense.

Thanks for the replies. From other forums I was given the impression that there was cap pressure on the club given Miller and Laf.

There is Cap pressure- but manageable for sure. And while a buyout is never Plan A, Goodrow's contract was structured with this possibility in mind.

But while the remote possibility of multiple offer sheets does exist- if TBL didn't face that a few years back when they were REALLY bent over a barrel and had Cirelli and others up for new contracts, then I can't get too worried about Drury dealing with the same- and he seems to have more flexibility than Tampa had back then.
