SO after all these moves, and with 8 forwards 26 yrs old or less and 4 of 8 dmen 25 yrs old or less, the team has alot of youth at wing, (not including Desnoyers, Brink, Gautheir), but very little at Center.
So depending on how you feel about Frost at 2C or 3C, what are the center options.
UFA:
Toews about 5mil
ROR about 5-6mil
JT COmpher about 5mil
Take a chance on more offensive, but still youngish Pius Suter or Drouin about 3-4mil
Domi at about 5mil
Or do you look at the possible trade options:
Jeff Carter, probably free and maybe with retention
Elias Lindholm, expiring UFA, but best of the lot
Seguin, older but DAL would retain
With Couturier and Frost thats 2 centers, one of Cates or Laughton can stay at center, and maybe you go for a cheap veteran 4C or keep Cates and Laughton at C and acquire a playmaking LW?
Theres alot of options and tradeable commodities are: 2024 FLA 1st, lots of highish midlevel prospects like Zamula, Ginning, Samson, Tuomaala, Gendron, Brodzinski, etc...)
But ideally theres alot of youth in the lineup, some bluechips in the pipeline at almost every position (Gautheir, Brink, Andrae, Spence) and 7.6mil in cap space to address that Center position.
Both UFAs are 28 yrs old and in their prime and are solid veteran partners. Vets on team like Atkinson, Couturier, Laughton, Deslauriers are quality team guys for the young guys to look up to. 9 of the 21 skaters below are rookies or in their 2nd-3rd NHL year at most, with 6 really good prospects a yr away.
Give up all that just to move up 2 spots? Unless a player Yzerman really wants is still on the board at 7 I can't see him doing it.
Yeah it really depends on who is still on the board, its just 2 spots, but its probably the lowest of the DET 2nds, and the 4ths sounded right, but a 1st and a 2nd isn;t enough, 2 5ths maybe. Maybe its the later NYI 1st DET has, but then its probably not enough for PHI, because thats a much bigger drop in the 1st round
Its also PHI is probably looking for similar player to DET.

Who's making the pick for Philly? Briere? Keith Jones? Are Holmgren and Clarke still involved?
Maybe if michkov falls to 7 but I can't see yzerman moving up to get a guy like Leonard or Dvorsky
If Michkov fell to 7...I'd think Philly would want that. Michkov is a perfect fit for SJ or Anaheim, honestly, given the timeliness for each team.
I have a hunch Leo Carlson falls in this draft. He is billed as a center, but he really is a LW.

I know Carlsson has been playing a lot of wing but most draft guys still insist he's a center. I can see him falling a bit, behind smith maybe but I have a hard time thinking Leonard or Dvorsky go before him.

I don't see Carlsson falling. He should go #3. He's the complete package. Jarmo will be all over him like a fat kid on a smartie.
I think there will be one guy we all think is top 5 that'll fall a bit. If its Benson, Carlsson or Michkov, then I think PHI might be in business to move back a bit for good value, BUT AGAIN, if one of those guys falls PHI would have to receive slight overpayment as they'd want him.
PHI also has to justify it too, so falling back too far probably isnt an option....but dropping 2-6 spots for an additional 2nd, a 4th and a 5th, they could justify that
Dubas accepts-- especially if Gio hangs them up (which I think is going to happen).
Robertson may have the highest ceiling-- but he can't seem to stay on the ice. Getting a 3rd pairing D and bottom 6 winger for cheap is fine by me
Exactly if Michkov is there. I'm not sure I'd draft Leonard.

If Michkov at #7 is still on the board then maybe I do this. I'm on the side of not really moving up unless we move up from #17/18. Even then there are so many fascinating options in the second round that I would be happy drafting where we are.

Theres a huge difference in 17th/18th though, I think DET would have to add 2 2nds....and maybe more. But really its just an idea for more draft capitol for PHI, while they play a pretty young roster with upside, since Braun, JVR, etc... didn;t get moved, PHI could use some more picks.

Yeah I wouldn't expect Detroit to move #17/18 for #7. I was just speaking in general of maybe moving up a couple spots in the mid to early teens if the price is reasonable.

Its a pretty weak proposal IMO, and I made it. Seeler probably gets a 3rd in a future draft or something like a 4th and 5th, as his value has soared (Alot of TB proposals are 2 4ths). PHI lacks LW prospects and cvertainly Robertsons value is at an all time low, but PHI could have him in AHL or see if he can gel. (One of robertsons biggest problems is hes a small offensive winger and toronto doesn;t have a spot for him in top 6 and always needs size/toughness, maybe on a more size/grit balanced team like PHI he could "hit").

It depends greatly on whose available. I'd also take it if Benson were there.
The talent that Robertson has isn't throw away level. While he hasn't been able to gain traction with the Leafs. If they move him I am certain they want more than bubble players.

Michkov is the only real possibility I think that teams would be scared of early. Teams could move out of 6 or 7 back a few spaces and still get good value but that's more an NFL move than an nhl one. Teams just do t do that.

I believe this WAS true. With his track record for not being able to hold a roster spot- plus his injury history- they might be happy take what they can get at this point. Knies proving he's ready for a top 9 role (at worst) doesn't help NR's case.
No argument that Robertson is talented-- but is he going to make the roster in a top 9 role for any reason other than he's <900k ? I'm not sure that's the case for 23/24 or beyond. Years of control may be the only reason he remains in TOR this offseason.

I definitely this the Leafs will trade him but they'll want some value back. Not guys they can get for 5th round picks.
Robertson will be at his best on a line where he is the trigger man. In TO, it's either be the puck retriever in the top 6 or play with low event grinders in the bottom 6. It's just not a situation that works for him.
The hope is he'll have a good stretch to build value and get traded for something they need more.
