Marner is and has been my favourite Leaf since we drafted him. I love his style of play and the local connection. He is what I craved on a Leafs team after having to watch the Kessel era for so long. It really comes down to the fact that we can't move Tavares, Nylander is just too perfect for what this team needs, and Matthews is one of the greatest Leafs of all time. The day Mitch Marner gets traded will probably be the single most painful day I can realistically imagine as a Leafs fan (I can't even fathom AM34 leaving), but if we can swing a Pacioretty kind of deal to get a good roster player, high end young prospect, and a draft pick, then I wouldn't necessarily be opposed.

Now, trying to identify a team that can facilitate that cap hit while also having good enough prospects is tough. Something surrounding Shane Wright or Quinton Byfield could be fun...

The whole thing about this "core shakeup" conversation is that it illustrates how good this core is. If Mitch is seen as the weakest link here, then that just shows you how great our core is. In my opinion, we need to ride it out. Get a new head coach and build a proper team AROUND the core. Get someone half decent behind the bench who gets these guys going and can carve out clear identities for each line. We can do great things with this core, the question is will we do it?

20Mill is available (factoring some stuff) so u could go out and add 2 5mill wings to this team that would increase their firepower

Like imagine them adding Killorn + Bertuzzi this summer

U then bring in a tough SOB coach like Laviolette and something spicy could be in the works

I’d put the chances of ROR coming back pretty slim and I’m ok with that. You can’t have him and Tavares on this roster, they are just too slow.






He did some nice things and was really nice to throw him out on ice in the final mins of a game but otherwise we pretty disappointing.

I was in panic mode because of the AM34 contract situation but if he'll actually re-sign becomes a lot easier to justify running it back.

Only controversially big change i'd look at is moving Willy for a mobile 2C and shifting JT to the wing, and maybe signing another good D as I think Brodie is great but has lost a step and would do better in a slightly lesser role.

Keefe's management of Nylander is another huge reason why I want him gone. Why he plays guys like Kerfoot more than he plays Nylander at 5v5 is beyond me, and his refusal to play him on PP1 is a joke. I'd be on cloud nine if the Leafs managed to steal Sully from Pittsburgh

My offseason I think assuming Matthews extends early which now seems to be what's happening.

1: Extend Dubas

2: Dubas extends Matthews

3: Fire Keefe, hire the best available of: Brunette, Gallant, Sullivan (?), etc.

4: Re-sign ROR, Schenn, Samsonov

5: Dump Murray

6: Trade Nylander (love him, not his fault, but best chip to get other needs addressed properly, and to fix the pay structure a bit come next year) for either a mobile young C or top 4 RHD. Whichever of the two you don't get in trade, sign in FA. Tavares shifts to LW full time, Brodie goes to 3LD (good player but needs lesser role now to have truly high end D core), Gio becomes 7th D (still solid player and likely will still see many games).

7: Sign a top 6 RW. Whether that's a legit one or you go bargain bin like maybe Connor Brown coming off injury, fine by me either way, just depends on how cap looks at this point.

8: Let Kampf go, Holmberg replaces. Re-sign one of ZAR or Acciari, Acciari preferred if cap allows for it.

Roughly becomes this:

Knies - Matthews - NEW RW
JT - NEW C - Marner
Robertson - O'Reilly - Jarnkrok
Combo of: Holmberg, ZAR, Lafferty, Acciari

Rielly - Schenn
McCabe - NEW D
Brodie - Liljegren

Gio, Timmins

Samsonov
Woll

Deadline upgrade at LW if Robertson is hurt or underperforming.

Or keep Willy and just sign a C but I think long term makes some sense as we probably shouldn't have him at 9m+ even though it's what he deserves. Really hard for me to move him one of my favourite Leafs.

I love Pridham but I feel hes better as the assistant. If u promote Dubas to President and Shanahan to MLSE board you are either

1. Stealing Eric Tulsky from Carolina. Gonna be expensive but **** it give that guy the $$$$$

2. Bringing in Brad Treliving

Tulsky is like Pridham only a tad better. He is someone behind all of Waddell's big moves. The backbone of that org at sorts. U steal him u could see them fall.


Plus an org with

CEO Shanahan
Pres Dubas
GM Tulsky
Ass GM Pridham, Wickenheiser, Hardy, Metcalf, Spezza

Time to rebuild, maybe it's the contract situations drivingmaybe it isn't.

My point is that stop accepting mediocrity, don't settle for 1 round playoff win.

We deserve better and this core is not gonna do it.

Trade in Schmaltz
Dubas to pres (remains person in charge)
Pridham to GM
Shanahan either to CEO/advisor or leaves org. Not sure which.
Matthews 5 years @12.5-13 mil on July 1st
28th overall gets traded, either down or for something.

Haven't seen anything that entices a trade for Marner just yet

If you're going to suggest the kawhii trade, you must know who it is beforehand, otherwise its a bad deal implicitly.

For everyone here that was ready to throw ~4 - 5 mil at ROR, would you be inclined to throw that kind of money to a guy like Compher? Somewhere in the range of 4.5 mil for 3C duties after ROR hinted towards testing the FA market. Compher would certainly bring some speed to our middle 6

We need to wait and see who becomes available first. As once more teams get eliminated we could see more players become available

WPG is one team rn who u could have a discussion with but so could SEA.

But I got a feeling if a big name pops up Willys packaged off.
