Description
The leafs have very little to no leverage in all these trades, either they trade Matthews and Marner for a slightly lower price, let them walk for free, or pay each 12m+ AAV and get stuck in the same cap situation they were in before.

They could probably get a 2nd or 3rd round pick from doing a sign and trade with his preference of a destination.

Matthews has no reason to go home when there’s a decent chance his hometown team won’t be in his hometown in a few years. And why are we trading our hometown kid who’s entering his prime years and wants to be a Leaf?

If you want a realistic return go and propose Marner to a team that needs top line wingers and not just the team that has shiny toys you want.

It's amazing that people like you can't put it together that they were interested in Marner *before* they had Laine and Gaudreau. You can't spend $30M on 3 wingers and be successful. It's simply not a recipe for success. The Jackets are also not even close to being a compete now team and Marner will be walking after 2 years. They're not trading for Marner.

Since you are a Hawks fan, you should do the Marner trade for the Hawks since they just lost Kane.
The equivalent of what you proposed for the Jackets would be something like:
Reichel, Rinzel, Katchouk, 2023 2nd (CHI), 2024 1st (CHI), 2025 2nd (CHI) for 2 years of Marner.

Would you make that trade?

Murray's base salary is $8,000,000 next season. A deal, more realistically, would be:
