If we're gonna trade 2 1sts and 3 2nds I'd rather trade for players and know what I'm getting than just picks. Can't see getting a 1st for 1 year of Murray

The Capitals are not going to trade a Top 10 Pick (8) for Picks 17 and 28 and a mid-/late-2nd. That’s nowhere near enough. Top 10 picks are basically NEVER traded in the Salary Cap era.

Leafs aren’t moving a 1st to dump Murray, can easily buy him out for under 700k… people need to realize that

Realistically the cost to move off from Murray is going to be much less than what people think, it was a 3rd + 7th last year. I wouldn't be surprised if they do a similar trade to the Mrazek to Chicago trade last year. Mrazek had a worse contract and the cost to move off of him was moving down from 25th to 38th, it's about the same as moving from 28th to 41st which coincidently is where Detroit is picking this year in the second round.

Which would also go up to a $2m cap hit in 2024-25. I do agree that this price to dump him is too steep but I just wanted to put this out there

The Caps aren’t in “re-stock the cupboard” mode, they’re in “compete as best we can while Ovie’s playing” mode. That means either trading the pick for a young stud like Keller, or (more likely) taking the best forward available at 8 and hoping they’ll be able to contribute in a year or two. Their absolute last priority at the moment would be prospect depth.

Also, just in general, trades like this don’t happen anymore. No one’s traded down from a top 10 pick since 2008 when the Isles traded down from 5 to 7 and then from 7 to 9 in exchange for two 2nds and a 3rd. As scouting improves teams don’t do the “quantity over quality” thing anymore - if you’ve got a chance at an elite player you take it.

Yea, I wouldn’t think so with Murray personally. I had seen a couple Leafs fans post it as a trade so I figured why not

I’d have np dealings picks to move up in the draft. Don’t know about moving 2 1sts and a 2nd to move up 9 spots. Sounds extreme + I think the bruins first has a good chance to be a top 16 pick , prob not but if they fail to get a 1 and 2 c they might be be on a downfall for a few years.

As for Murray

If michkov is there at 6-7 I’d have np giving up pick 40 to move up a couple spots. And for pick 17 I’d also have np moving a 2nd to move up 6-7 spots .I’m not giving up potentially 3 top 40 picks to move up unless it’s in the top 3(which won’t happen)

As for Murray I 100% see a 1st having to be spent if they want to get rid of his contract . His actual salary is 6 million ,who would take that contract for a 2nd? Guy’s never healthy so you’d basically be paying 6 mill for a 2nd. I’d ask for a 1st minimum. If sending a 5th back gets it done so be it but I’m asking for a 1st. Now if I’m the leafs I’d let him rot down for a season but if you actually think your a cup contender and this might be matthews last year then that 6 million can be very valuable for them to use in the off season

K just noticed his buyout number for next season is only like 600k so I’d go that route but the year after theyll lose 2 mill which can cost costly to them if they want to resign nylander and matthews. I’d try shipping with a 2nd to Arizona if they have problems hitting the floor . They’ll do anything to ***** themselves for picks
