Trades
1.
COL
  1. Hayes, Kevin ($3,571,428 retained)
PHI
  1. 2023 1st round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
Avs have been interested in Hayes at various times throughout the last year. Likely the cheapest option at 2C to acquire with term and one of the easier ones to fit into our cap situation with retention from Philly.
2.
COL
  1. 2023 3rd round pick (NJD)
  2. 2024 1st round pick (PIT)
PIT
  1. Girard, Samuel
Additional Details:
Pens fans seem to think this trade makes sense for them. But would be shocked if Avs actually do this without using the assets to improve the Top 6 (preferably 2C, however Avs were able to get Hayes on day 1 of the draft to fill that hole. This trade becomes a 3 way deal to improve the Top 6.
3.
LAK
  1. 2023 3rd round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
3 way trade with the Pens/Kings. Avs send the lower of the 2 picks from the Pens to LA in order to help them clear Arvidsson's cap hit (reportedly the most likely guy to move to make room for D or G).

Nah, if we trade for an Avs defenseman it better be Toews.

(Which he’s probably not available anyways)

Not this Pens fan, zero interest in Girard.

If I'm GM, I definitely offer Toews before Girard unless DT is taking a MASSIVE discount and is willing to go only 6 years.

Not all Pens fans. But have seen several Pens ACGM's trying to trade draft picks for Girard. Which doesn't make sense from an Avs perspective without in turn flipping those assets for F help.

Hronek went for a 1st and 2nd no way COL accepts less. Drouin and Arvidsson is one to many imo one or the other not both.

I can't envision a scenario in which the Avs trade Girard for futures simply for cap relief. The Hayes thing is, I think, a lot of speculation but maybe it would work; I'd offer the 2024 1st before the 2023 1st.

Lets go down that road then - what would the Pens need to give up for Toews?

I don't know the Pens system but the conversation would start with a good young forward that can play C and has scoring upside, a decent D or other F plus something like a 2nd. Avs need immediate help up front but they can't wait on prospects to develop and need cost certainty. It's a tall order but Toews is a top-pair D so, that's going to cost whomever wants him.

That's my big concern with Hayes - he just doesn't work in the Avs system.

Word - I appreciate the response. The only decent prospect they have that can really play C is Poulin. Decent D assets are POJ, Ty Smith, and Pickering - Smith and POJ are obviously NHL ready and very cheap. Forwards would be Nylander/Puustinen. I know it's tough because we don't really fit that C need that you have. Personally I'd be willing to give the 2024 first if that has more value than Poulin. But if Poulin, Smith/POJ, and a 2nd would get the job done I think I'd be all over that.
