Kings take that deal and run.

That being said, it's pretty bad for Winnipeg, as it does nothing to either push them to a rebuild or make them a contender. All while losing a Vezina winning goaltender.

Hawks decline. They wouldn't give up anything for Schmidt. He's a cap dump from the Hawks perspective. Jets pay Hawks to take him.

You either overpay and over term Dubois or you take a run at this years draft, attempt to have as many firsts as possible, using Connor/helly/Dubois/scheifele, possibly ehlers. Save niedreiter/pionk/wheeler all retained for trade deadline. So with any luck you add 9 high end prospects to the last little run of prospects.

Yeah . . . it's so odd to settle on the figure of $900,000 retention on a $5 million cap hit (instead of $1 million). Maybe I'm just a little fixated on round numbers.

Xhekaj is not a normal bottom pairing dman. He can fight, he is tough. Wouldn’t let him go for less than a first. So yes Montreal decline that trade
