Marner Trade Rumour

Created by: Janasazi
Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: May 29, 2023
Published: May 29, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The money for the UFA's I got from this site:
https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/news/bertuzzi-severson-orlov-projected-for-richest-contracts-among-top-50-free-agents

The trade rumor was based on this:
https://www.houseofhockey.net/Insider-Reports-That-the-Carolina-Hurricanes-and-Toronto-Maple-Leafs-are-Working-on-a-Blockbuster-Trade-241092

I'm not an expert on defensemen so I just picked a few guys from the Daily Faceoff UFAs to fill it out.

I think this is a more balanced lineup though

Why do rumours have any truth to them? Just because reporters (entertainers) say something so they have jobs and it fills in space in their blogs or media, doesn't mean a darn thing.
Why would Carolina make this trade?
Murray isn't on LTIR by the way.

I just wanted to see what the team would look like if the rumor were true.

I know Murray isn't on LTIR, I was gonna either buy him but I was too lazy to put it

Canes decline. Necas 75% production 25% cost, no roster pieces for pass 1st guy, you can just scroll through my past posts at this point, I've had this argument 1000000 times

I don't want to be a jerk, but what else do you think they're doing? The rest of the front office is still there, the president of hockey ops is still there, and they can easily continue hockey business. Does it mean they're going to pull the final trigger without a GM, no, but they are clearly doing work.

If I remember correctly the Kessel trade was either executed without a formal GM or most of the work was done before Lou was hired, so there's precedent.

Haha. You’re pretty close though. Leafs were using co GM of Kyle dubas and mark hunter in between Nonis and Lou. So they had people there to make decisions, and to be fair, Pridham was announced as the guy making decisions currently as well and who we will likely see make the announcements at the draft

No chance Leafs move Marner for such an underwhelming return. NHL playoffs are a dud - no one watching b/c no one actually cares about the teams that are left. Hockey insiders just looking to generate traffic - Leaf rumours (especially ones including Marner or Matthew’s) guaranteed to generate views if nothing else

I'm sure gm candidates would, you know, like to make a decision on their 2nd best player, or have some semblance of autonomy in the job
