Hawks say no. They don’t need to dump Zaitsev and won’t send 2 seconds back if they take 10+ mil in cap.

Grzelcyk is pretty highly valued by Boston. I understand they are very desperate to shed cap right now, but he is a core part of that defense. Not too sure how good Rathbone is but assuming he's just a depth defender, you're gonna need to add more to that. Almost makes it not worth it because you just gave a first round pick for a defender at the deadline.

Wouldn't it make more sense for Vancouver to keep the higher pick in order to get a higher quality prospect than getting 3 prospects of lower quality? They aren't rebuilding, they are still planning to be playoff contenders. Whoever they take with their 1st in 2023 could be NHL ready by 2024

Garland isn’t negative value so dumping Myers for zaitsev while also moving down makes no sense, and Vancouver isn’t paying that for an overpaid 3rd pairing d man

Hawks pass. If they’re taking on that much cap, I’m not adding two high seconds to move up 8 spots.

As a Hawks fan. I'd pass. Too much to give up for 8 spots. As a side note. No reason to buy out Zaitsev. Only ~550k delta between buyout and sending him to the AHL. You've got tbe space for it. Rip off the band aid.

Well then we’re keeping the 19th pick or we can trade up with someone else at a much cheaper price

Make it your 3rd B’s might consider.

Looking for a 2nd. An early 3rd with a second piece might be enough, a late 3rd isn’t.

Not sure if the Canucks should ice Hughes and Gryz on the same team, tho.

That would be suicide.

I would probably do it for our 3rd.

I think Canucks will still have enough size on the back end with gryz on 2nd pair.

Hughes I have 0 worries about in any situation on any blue line

I think one thing to consider about the cap dumps going to Chi is the garland is actually pretty good.

It would essentially be like adding Max Domi back into the line up. I know garland is smaller, but he can score at a 50-50 point pace while playing mostly 3rd/2nd line minutes. In Chicago he will get first line minutes with bedard.

After a couple years, garland can either be flipped for assets or retained if it looks like Chicago exits the rebuild phase relatively quickly.

Myers and Zaitsev swap I guess is debateable but I think you’d find most hockey people prefer Myers to Zaitsev.

I think overall the value is equal and it benefits both teams.

Moving up from 19 to 11 in this specific draft is no joke. The top end has some serious hitters

Yeah, I agree. There are some real good players in this draft. There are at #19 too. I mean...if it happened...I guess It happened. I just think it's too rich to do. I'm interested in additional picks, but I think the Hawks should be able to better weaponize their cap space.

Garland would be good for Chicago but is still a cap dump in the sense that what other teams would be willing to take his contract that isn’t a bottom feeder with cap space? Probably none. So whether he is good for Chicago or not, you play the market.

The Myers Zaitsev swap simply doesn’t need to happen for the hawks. You’re dumping Zaitsev from the team with the most cap space to the team with the least. They can take on Myers and buyout Zaitsev themself. Why dump him and give up assets/lesser the return of the trade?

Moving from 19 to 11 this draft is no joke. But neither is taking on 10+mil in cap space.
