Unfortunately that won't be enough to entice Detroit to take on that whole contract as is.

Killorn won't be signing a 1-year deal unless it was 20% of the cap maybe.

Why blow up the team that much? Why Killhorn over Barbashev? This is all bad.

Move Martinez and call it a day. Bring everyone back and try again

Why not?

William is a better version of Copp. He scores more and he wins 55% of his faceoffs. This would give us great centre depth and some injury insurance on RD and we're getting paid a 1st round pick to do it!

I'd accept this in a tenth of a second flat.

I just don't like the term. 4 years left just isn't really ideal when you already have Copp making similar money and going to have to pay everyone else. I know the cap could go up significantly but I just look at the deals the young guys are going to get, all before Karlsson's contract expires. Thinking about it more o guess it's not that bad and you could always move Karlsson with retention.

I just prefer guys with 1-3 years of term max in order to keep cap flexibility. Johansen, Backlund and Pageau would be the candidates I would be going after for a stop gap.

We have Perron and Vrána coming off the books after next season so Karlsson's cap is already paid for. There's ample room to sign all of Raymond and Seider and Berggren and Rasmussen next season and then it's two more years until Edvinsson and a few others are up for a raise but by then the cap will have gone up quite a bit.

I'm just thinking of Raymond, Seider, Edvinsson and Kasper end up getting decent to big money, filling out the rest of the team might be more difficult with his contract still on the books. Then there is also the roster spot he would be taking up. I think if I were to do this trade I would end up using Karlsson next offseason or the one following with retention to get a few more assets to make room.

Kasper, Edvinsson, and Wallinder are all three years away from needing a raise. Both Copp and Karlsson will be on their last year the year after. If Kasper is good enough to oust either Copp or Karlsson then we have a choice of which one of them to keep and which one to trade for assets. The timing looks really good to me.

Neither Edvinsson nor Wallinder will demand such high raises due to them both having to work their way up through both Määttä and Walman. They won't have had the opportunity to show enough to demand top dollar so soon.

Barbashev is going to get paid and a lot of term. It’ll be a bad contract in a couple years. Sign another veteran on a shorter deal. And why would adding Severson be bad? That’s blueline is even better than the current one.

No. You don't win a cup without Karlsson. You can move Martinez for free to a team like Edmonton or Seattle who need other blue liners that can be relied upon. Why the hell would you trade Dorofeyev? Killorn? No. Let Miromanov play. No need to wrap up money in Damon.
