Team: 2023-24 Los Angeles Kings
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 6, 2023
Published: Jun. 6, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Still coming in, but here's what we've got so far from various insiders.
Trades
1.
PHI
  1. Grans, Helge
  2. Petersen, Cal
  3. Walker, Sean
  4. 2024 2nd round pick (LAK)
Additional Details:
the 2024 pick is a guess, but I don't see Blake trading both a 1st and 2nd in the same round. It's counter to their draft strategy over the past 5 years.
2.
LAK
  1. 2023 1st round pick (LAK)
CBJ
  1. Provorov, Ivan ($2,025,000 retained)
3.
LAK
PHI
  1. 2023 1st round pick (LAK)

Kings Insider John Hoven is reporting Grans is a part of it.

Thanks! Philly is going to get a lot out of this. That's for sure.

They're moving about $7.7mil in cap out with the Petersen and Walker contracts moved. Petersen was always going to be a dump.

So basically LA is saving 5.6mil in cap this year, after the Provorov retention, at the cost of a 2nd and Grans.

Petersen contract is a HUGE negative asset. Hart will be going elsewhere for sure.

So far I can live with it. And @tkecanuck341 must be tickled pink that Blake didn't have to adopt my strategy of trading Alex Iafallo.

They still need a goalie and only have roughly $2M remaining in cap space after the rumored 2 year ~$6M extension for Gavrikov. Not out of the woods yet.

...and Walker. Walker is not negative value.

Cal Peterson has 2 years $5m AAV Kings are shedding along with Sean Walker for essentially Helge Grans and a 2024 2nd round pick & $2m retention middle-manning on Provorov.

Not sure Sean Walker is considered a “negative asset” nonetheless, Kings net $5m in cap space this year and $3m next year.

I was just going to ask if they gave all that up just to off load cal but it seems like a **** load to move for just that.

I thought Carter Hart was going to LAK too? PHI gets LAK 1st, LAK 2nd, CBJ 2nd, Grans, and the dumps Walker/Peterson.

Seems like too much going to PHI for just Provorov and the dumps. CBJ is paying for most of Provorov (asset wise) and LAK is retaining on Provorov...seems like they should get more out of this than just dumps. BUT maybe that's just the price of dumps.

LA retains on provorov, gives up a 2nd, prospect, walker, i know petersen is a dump but all for nothing? seems strange

LA is getting the bad deal here in my opinion.

So all things said and done, for LA to move out ~5.7mil in cap (after taking into account the Provorov retention), it cost LA a 2nd and Grans. Not to downplay Walker, who should play top-4 minutes with Philly, his contract just was redundant on an LA team with Clarke, Spence, and Durzi all on the right side. Certainly not the 1st and Turcotte that I think you were believing it would be.
