The Jets want Necas, this traces back several seasons actually. Whoever comes back needs to score goals AND have term. There is only one player on the Jets who fits that mould.

Both are up at the end of the year and who's going to get a bigger extension? Probably Necas. Money this year is the same with 50% retention on Schiefele. How well did the Canes do in the ECF with defense first forwards? They really need a player who can make his own chances.

They had 4 games that they probably win if Svechnikov isn't sitting on the sidelines with a once-in-a-career injury.... this is a comically bad deal for the Canes. Necas is going to get the bigger extension because he's the more valuable player. He's younger, he outscored Schiefele again. Let's just reiterate that, Necas outproduced Schiefele. Necas had 71 points. Schiefele had... what 64? Something like that? Necas is miles better defensively, faster...

Schiefele had 68, Necas 71. Negligible difference. 42 goals to 28 is the important part.
