Betting on a rebound year

Created by: Amd
Team: 2023-24 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 7, 2023
Published: Jun. 7, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Blackwood is an option - not great last year but prior to much better. I also think it’s possible he goes UFA and gets picked up that way. Desmith to WPG as they’ll need something like a decent backup esp. if they trade Hellebuyck.

If you’re betting on Blackwood doing jack **** then I’d say a rebound won’t happen

We need a better backup if Blackwood is our starter, and why would we take on the contract of Tyler Myers when Granlunds buyout costs less than a tank of gas and a can of Tobacco

Why the flying **** would u pass? Grunlands buyout is only 833k we're basically giving u cap space on a silver platter in this trade, pens should not do this

Because it barely helps us clear cap space, and we’d be moving a good 2nd line winger for a bad 3rd line C who makes more money

Y’all clear just over 3 million if you don’t buyout Granlund. If you do buyout Granlund you save over 7 million in cap space lol. This is a no brainer accept from Vancouver and a no brainer pass from Pittsburgh 😂

$833K is for the 1st year, followed by $1.833M for the next 3 years.

Buying out Granlund also hurts our cap in future years. While it would be helpful, the Canucks don’t necessarily need to clear cap space for this season. Obviously it would be better if we could, but not doing a bad deal like this

Blackwood wasn't good the prior year though - or the year before that. I'd honestly rather just play Desmith than give up assets for Blackwood at his cap hit. Or look at UFAs like Korpisalo, Hill, Varlamov, etc

Can you not read.... you buy the dog **** unusable center out for .8 this year and 1.8 after that..... you clear so much cap space its not even funny. This is a terrible deal for Pittsburgh and u would be stupid not to take it and run. We'll 99% just end up buying Grunland out since its not bad at all.... unless someone else is stupid enough to take him without us paying

Why would the Canucks bail you out of your terrible TDL acquisition just so they can have a charge on the salary cap for 4 seasons?

It adds 1.8 to your cap for for three years after this one to get rid of 6 million this year and next year and the salary cap is going to go up substantially after this year. You would need to pay anyone else a first to take on Myers, so basically you off load Connor Gardland who you would not have got much for anyway, so basically you get 7 mill in cap space for a 4th round pick, and Potentially a solid bottom paring D man depending on how Rutta's surgery recover goes

Myers doesn’t cost a 1st to dump. After his bonus is paid he’s only owed 1M in actual salary, so a team trying to get to the floor like Arizona or Anaheim would take him for a mid round pick. Most Anaheim fans on here are typically fine taking him for a 4th

You bailing us out, that's halarious, we're bailing you out, we're taking on Myers. We would never actually propose this trade because it is terrible for us. This years buyout is .8 and then once it becomes 1.8 next year the cap goes up anyway. Ask yourself this question... is Myers buyout was as good as Grunlands would you buy him out? Obviously yes, so just pretend this buyout is for Myers and you will wish this **** was our GM so you could take this and run

Or since the Canucks aren’t contending this year they can keep Myers expiring contract and let it run out rather than having either the extra year of Granlund or 3 extra years of his buyout

Arizona maybe but they should be able to get to the floor anyway. Anaheim would be stupid to do that because its has 2 years left on it and they're going to be ready to start to compete by next off season. If you can get them to **** up and take that than ya that works please do because this trade is dog**** anyway

Myers has 1 year left not 2. And I believe Anaheim only has 1 NHL RHD for next season currently, so Myers could definitely be a fit there

Once Myers signing bonus has been paid, I expect it won't be hard to trade him for future considerations without adding much.

Teams like Arizona are trying to hit the cap floor without spending actual dollars. A $6M cap hit while only spending $1M is good for them.
