No, not nearly enough. You could maybe Dumb Benn for that price and we would throw in Caleb Jones.

Benn is making 9.5 for only two more seasons. Not only that, he's coming off a 78 point year, he's not completely useless. Jones is massively overpaid until 2030. Chicago should take this in a heartbeat. The Benn contract will be far long and done by the time Chicago is pressed for cap.

Benn is not the vet you want your superstar learning from. He showed how bad of a captain he is in the playoffs and tanked any value he regained. Jones is overpaid sure but he's a 1RD. He'll still be useful when the hawks are ready to compete.

You’re forgetting the part where Jamie Benn could get a 1st if Chicago flips him 50% retained. Also no one would ever take Jones without sending significant money back. He just makes too much

I think this trade is pretty close. Needs a little fine tuning, but most trades do. 2 years of Benn to get out of Seth’s contact could mean a world of difference when the prospects develop & need to get paid.

Think Dallas get shafted here, both long and short term.

Saying Jones is a 1RHD is a stretch. He's shown flashes and glimpses of being good (on Chicago), but was always average for the most part. You can get his offensive and defensive production by paying two players what he makes, and probably be better off doing it. IMO JustaBoss is right, Dallas is getting shafted here.

I agree with that but it makes no sense for either team to make this trade.

Gives me an idea for a 3-way with VAN along these lines. DAL gets a hometown player in Jones, CHI retains on Benn and sends him to his hometown in VAN, and then CHI gets picks/players/prospects/cap dumps for their rebuild. Not sure exactly how it might work, but it's interesting.

Yes, Jones is overpaid, but still a solid D for the Hawks. By the time Hawks prospects are looking for new deals the cap will likely be on the rise. At that point either Jones' contract is not as big of an impediment or it is easier for the Hawks to move him due to few years on contract.

All in all that is Future Hawks problem. Jones stays.
