The big error with this concept is the Ottawa trade. Hypothetically, this should/would be a no brainer from San Jose IMO

Detroit doesn't need retention on both DeBrincat and Konecny, We can afford both comfortably and not bat an eyelash.

I think Detroit would gladly take Konecny and Debrincat, both retained, for downgrading two first round picks. Heck, maybe Ottawa lays an egg next year and the pick actually ends up being an upgrade. Who knows.
