Is this NHL caliber goalie standing behind Vladar or something? I don't see him.

A better goalie than Elvis and his stellar .876

Yep and our echl level defense.

Edit: also pick 34 for a backup/ fringe starter is beyond crazy. We’re better off signing a goalie in free agency.

idk Korpi somehow posted a .913 behind the exact same defence

So because they have a bad goalie they should rush out to trade high picks for another bad goalie? Makes sense.

Vladar has been perfectly solid, and consistent. Consistency is something the Jackets would dream of

Sabres would be more interested in Tanev, and Hanifin.

Maybe. Think they could use some proven NHL forwards too though.

Ok. Elvis and the defense also sucked last year. Everything I said was correct. Korpi played well for us, it is true.

With all of that being said. We’re still not trading 34 for vladar. You can trade him for a late 3rd tho. Not essentially a first.

Hanifin trade is ridiculous.
Would I give up the 14OA for Hanifin? Depends on the players available there, but sure. A 1st and Smith or Joseph? Sure. 2 1sts isn't happening, even with Granlund attached. He doesn't need to be there, we can buy him with little downside IMO. To compare, the Chychrun return isn't 2 1sts and his value was higher than Hanifin's is.

TIL a sub .900 sv% and bottom 20 gsax/60 passes for perfectly solid and consistent in Flame land. No wonder everyone is bailing. At least nobody is deluding themselves by saying Elvis had a good year.

bro went and dug up the analytics just to sound smart. cute! The whole team was atrocious and bled high danger chances like crazy. Probably would've had a .940 behind CBJ's defence lmao

Cap space is a very valuable asset and a buyout leaves damage. Best to get that deal off the books

I get that D core is bad, but did you watch a single Flames game?

I did! And your D corps would have been an exponential improvement on what Columbus was able to run out there night after night.

I'll put it this way: remember Erik Gudbranson, the D you were ecstatic to see sign elsewhere at $4M AAV for 4 years? He had the 2nd-most minutes of any of our defensemen, and logged a -24 +/-. Andrew Peeke led our team in minutes... and he had a -41, good enough for (checks notes) worst in the league.

Our best defenseman by +/- among those who played at least 30 games was Adam Boqvist, at -12.

Zach Werenski, easily our best D on talent, played all of 13 games.

Please don't patronize me about CBJ's defense.

My issue wasn't with the personnel in Calgary's core, rather the systematic errors which led to an abnormal amount of high danger chances.

Pens decline. Granlund far too valuable. You would have to throw in Wolf to even get Dubas to listen.

Cap Space isn't a concern I have over Granlund. His buyout next year is barely more than league minimum and for the 3 years after is only $1M more. With the cap expected to go up a lot and Carter's albatross off the books after the '23-'24 season, the buyout penalty for Granlund is hardly significant. IMO, the price to trade him far exceeds the price to buy him out. I think Dubas is trying to find a suitor, but if he doesn't, I see a buyout as likely.

You know what else leaves damage? Trading away multiple 1sts. The Pens prospect pool is bone dry, so it would be nice to have some guys in the system for a change. The Pens are inevitably going to give up futures, but this trade is a lot to give up for a #2/#3 defenseman.
