Description
If tradi g down is on the menu, which one is the one you're looking for?
Trades
1.
MTL
  1. 2023 1st round pick (LAK)
  2. 2023 1st round pick (PHI)
Additional Details:
Briere might be looking to start with a bang and get his center piece to start the rebuild.
PHI
  1. 2023 1st round pick (FLA)
  2. 2023 1st round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
5-31 for 7-22
2.
MTL
  1. 2023 1st round pick (WSH)
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (WSH)
  3. 2025 2nd round pick (WSH)
Additional Details:
Washington could want to jump and lock in Michkov knowing other teams are looking to move up.
WSH
    5 for 8-40-2025 2nd
A 2025 pick isn't optimal but it's easily tradeable for a 2024 if sweetened with a later pick (See Tampa-Montreal trade)
    3.
    MTL
    1. 2023 1st round pick (DET)
    2. 2023 1st round pick (NYI)
    DET
      5-31 for 9-17
Yzerman looking to get his guy? I don't like it personally because at nine you're looking at a tier of players down with likely Leonard, Benson and Reinbacher gone.
Knowing Montreal has a quantity of prospect but is lacking top tier ones this trade seems odd. I'd be more enticed by it if it were pick 37 instead of 31 but even there I might not bite on it.
      4.
      MTL
      1. Askarov, Yaroslav
      2. 2023 1st round pick (NSH)
      Additional Details:
      Curveball.
Nashville is rumored to be looking at trade partners in picks 5 through 7 so Montreal could be interested if the offer is good.
      NSH
        5 for 15-Askarov
Don't know who adds here but seems pretty even to me as it is. 15 and 24 aren't enough to trade up in their desired 5-7 range and it's unlikely they trade away future picks as they enter somewhat of a rebuild so who's part of the deal? For Montreal Askarov is the only one that could make this work, the Canadiens are needy for a goalie prospect and could pick one early this year but what if they get offered one of the best ones now? Nashville would jump a couple tiers in the draft and could select the center piece to kick-start a rebuild while still holding on the 24OA pick they own. Montreal would get out of the first round with their goalie, 15 and 31.

Obviously the right answer is the first trade. The other 3 are so bad for Montreal

        Philly easily.

Under the assumption that they take michkov that still leaves leonard likely on the table so its ideal in that sense.

I would say for all of then I would want a bit more value as we are fiving up the best asset. For the philly one if they get a 2nd from the litany of proposed trades I would want another trade back where we get a 2nd and give up a 3rd

None and draft Michkov at 5OA.

But if I had to choose its the Wings deal. I dont think Benson is taken before 9OA. Otherwise yea disaster.

I think I'd take this. Finally get a #1 center in Carlsson or Smith, and extend Saros so you've still got elite goaltending.

I'd just prefer 7 and 22 unless we get Will Smith so he can be the Fresh Prince.

All come down to whose available. Value wise these are all somewhat fair but without knowing whose available and whose on their list, etc its really just taking a shot in the dark.

The best and right answer will always be keep the 5th and draft BPA.

True, but I’d rather trade Saros in a similar deal.

Fair, I don't think Saros gets you into the top five though. All the teams with those picks are too far from contention to consider it.

Detroit passes, We can still get good players at 9 and 17. No interest in moving up 4 spots than down 14 spots. Makes no sense even if we do get Michkov.
