With the UFA signings Buffalo made and Adams' prior professions about not wanting to commit term and cap (or trade 1st round picks) to older players, I think the ship has sailed on Pesce for the Sabres.

Looks like we have run out of Canes fans to suggest Canes trades. Although in all fairness, they were pretty bad, too so there's that.

We don't need one of the top defensive guys in the league because we have 35 year old Erik Johnson for 1 year doesn't make much sense. I would think Adams would be smarter than that.

Pesce has a trade clause and will not wave it to go to the Sabres. Adams tried on a deal for Pesce

Source?

Pesce is from NY and played with Granato before seems like a match

If you listen to what Adams said on Sunday after the signings and what Granato said yesterday, it's blatantly obvious they are placing a premium on the "mentor" aspect of Johnson bringing his experience from a winning organization that evolved from a rebuild like what the Sabres are seeing themselves doing. It's also real obvious from those two interviews that they think Clifton will fit into their top 4. So, connect the dots and ask:
1. Are Dahlin, Power or Samuelsson going to play outside of the top 4? No.
2. If they were to add Pesce, who'll be 30 this season, will they give him the long-term extension he's been reported as wanting (i.e. Severson)? Not likely.
3. Are they going to deviate from their consistent stance of trading for Pesce as a 1-year rental and forfeit the assets to do so? No way.

Bottom line - and it really sounded more evident in Granato's interview yesterday - is that they feel like they have their roster complete, outside of possibly a forward addition (which Adams alluded to in his PC but Granato said he didn't have any worries filling Quinn's spot from within).

GM & coach talking up guys they signed doesn't mean they wouldn't want a very good d man in this league that would be a huge boost to one of their weak spots. They reportedly were interested. Carolina just seemed unsure in the past whether they were going to sign him. Now it seems that the trade option is more likely.

I don't think this means anything. Are you expecting Granato to come out and say we could use another top 4 guy, but I guess we gotta deal with what we got lol? Clifton & Johnson would likely still be playing even with Pesce added. Bryson on waivers. Joki part of trade. Stillman in the booth. Boosh/EJ could rotate.

Well, the op looks fair, and pesce would be a nice addition, so yes.

I think we have all heard/read adams comments. I don't think it's just gm speak, I think he's ready to roll with what he has unless something falls in his lap. Not sure why, I always got the sense he was more interested in hanifin, even though hanifin is left handed. Probably because hanifin is younger.

He said that Buffalo is interested in Pesce, but he has a 15 team NTC & isn't sure if Buffalo would be on it. That seems pretty far from "Pesce will not waive for Buffalo" like the other poster said.

Not only did Brett play for Granato but Karmanos was Assistant GM when Brett was drafted.
You have convinced me that there is strong interest from Buffalo and possibly from Pesce to make a deal.
If Brett does not sign soon, there maybe more discussions.
That is a very modest offer for a player as good as Pesce.
Pesce is a game changer, he has the skills to change to course of a game.
8 year at $6.5 for him is a very modest contract was well, it would probably cost be a little higher.
Buffalo has drafted extremely well the past 7 seasons so there is a reluctance to trade first.
Bottom line, adding year of experience to the young Sabres, the other D-men, Levi and Pesce would make the Sabres a serious Cup Contender.
You have convinced me that there certainly could me more to come from the Pesce to Buffalo saga.
