My thoughts on a Gibson trade

Created by: Jah1722
Team: 2023-24 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 8, 2023
Published: Jul. 8, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I’m a Gibson fan and hope he stays in ANA but if he does get traded I hope is something like this realistically

Lyubushkin: cap space. Could be Greenway or Olofsson too from BUF. Basically a player who a team would prefer to move on from.

Rousek: a solid prospect with a shot at the NHL.

Conditional 3rd in 2 years that can become a 1st with Gibson getting back to his old ways and playing well enough his team makes a playoff run.

And hopefully no retention.

This is just an outline from BUF. If NJD the cap looks like it would be Vanecek. Prospect like a Salminen or Casey. And conditions would be for ECF and SCF appearance instead.

This would give some value to ANA with less risk to the acquiring team.
Trades
1.
ANA
  1. Lyubushkin, Ilya
  2. Rousek, Lukas
  3. 2025 3rd round pick (BUF)

2.
ANA
  1. Salminen, Samu [Reserve List]
  2. Vanecek, Vitek
  3. 2025 3rd round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
Conditional 3rd: becomes a 2nd if NJD makes ECF, becomes a 1st if NJD makes SCF. Gibson has to play 65% of playoff games.

Gibson is not worth the risk of his salary alone.

Devils decline. If Gibson is going to NJ without a massive sweetener, Devils decline.

i dont think gibson fetches much. its known he wants out, but he is picky about where, that doesnt help. Maybe with a little retained salary the ducks could get a backup goalie and a mid round pick. Or a player like olofsson who is on his way out of that lineup and has a moderate cap hit. gibsons cap is what is making teams skeptical of pulling the trigger and lessening his value

Coming back because I didn't read the description, Salminen or Casey? Casey is a top 5 Devils prospect, Salminen isn't even top 15!

I’m not sure which tweet you posted but the tweet I found from him shows Gibson being virtually as good as Hellebyuck since 2014.

The timeline of Gibson himself isn’t as bad as it people make it out to be when you take into account his workload. Yes it’s per 100 shots but Gibson face 100s more than others so his line is gonna be skewed poorly.

I have no idea about NJD prospect pool. I just looked at draft position and the points on here.

We live in a reality where Gibson doesn’t need a massive sweetener to be moved

Sabres would prob want to give a goalie Comrie or UPL instead of Lyub or trade One to another team but trade looks fair to Buffalo

We live in a reality where most teams have analytics departments and those departments are well aware that Gibson is trash

Honestly, only player I'd want from Anaheim that NJ could get for a reasonable price is Henrique. Henrique would be a great add for NJ come the deadline.

Check his next post further down the page, rather proves our point that the guy is overworked to hell and back. He'd bounce back in a big way behind a solid defense, or at least a team he believes can get one back if he needs it.

I think it will serve the team best if Verbeek puts a hold then revisits a trade at or near the trade deadline.

He's going to have a new coach, new system and revamped defense. It wasn't long ago that he was an all-star that carried a flawed team to near the top of the Pacific standings in 2022.

Come the trade deadline, if he's doing well there may be a team desperate for an upgrade in net. If Gibson falters again, then Verbeek can look to sell low after Dostal develops with more reps.
