I'd take that deal if I was the Flames

I understand the cap space it frees up with the NSH trade but, trading Marner when you're trying to win now is tough to justify

If Chicago made that deal the return would more likely be a 3rd or 4th rounder not a 2nd IMO

Why not, Lindholm is probably leaving, Mangiapane is good and signed but, the trade frees up cap space and makes them better offensively. If you manage to sign Nylander I'd call that a damn good trade

Way too much for Nylander, way too little for Marner, I would think the flames could get another top player for one of those guys somewhere....nothing is impossible it frees up space for the flames probably a couple more draft picks 3rd 5th maybe a prospect going back

Why not? Because Nylander is not worth more than Lindholm alone and Nylander does not improve the Flames if Lindholm is leaving. Not to mention he is just as likely to not sign in Calgary as Lindholm is. If Lindholm decides to not re-sign and Calgary sells him it should be for purely futures. The team has zero chance of competing without him. Adding in Mangiapane and a 3rd just makes the trade completely lopsided value wise

Imagine a trade to bring back Tyson Barrie with Marner going the other way. Absolute nightmare fuel....

Hawks decline. Best the Leafs get back now is a 3rd or 4th rounder. Hawks would have to keep Murray and pay him his full $6m salary.

Yeah. Unless Kurashev gets to arbitration and that second buyout window opens up for CHI. But, even then, i'd still be hard pressed to send back more than a 3rd.

My understanding is that even with a second buyout window, no player can be bought out that wasn't on the roster at the TDL. If that's true, and the Hawks can't buy out Murry now, the price to "acquire" him needs to be ridiculously high for the Hawks to accept him in trade. I doubt that TOR will do that now. Seems to me that they just gotta buy him, themselves (if they can).

It's still hard for me to believe they (TOR) didn't trade him to the Hawks prior to the draft along with #28 OA, for (likely) a second-round pick. The Hawks would simply have bought him out, a la Bailey. They (TOR) then would have had Murry completely off their books AND likely still have been able to draft Easton Cowan with that 2nd round pick... SMH

Barrie didn't work the first time in Toronto and now it would be even worse. Bringing in a power play specialist when they already have Rielly and Klingberg to fill those spots is just unceremoniously dumping Marner for a couple magic beans and some spare parts.

The Leafs are the only team that can still buy Murray out in the 2nd window.

Oh yeah! I forgot about that part of the buyout rules. Nice catch!

I agree completely, though. They could have been rid of that contract, instead, opting to draft someone in the 1st round that they could have had in the late 2nd or probably even 3rd round.
