TO is moving more salary but much better players, this doesn't really help us, just give us worse players with more term

Only reason to move Joz is for salary reasons. Adding money for Armia is a terrible plan

Interesting and unique Leaf trade. Might help the Leafs cap this year, but Allen and Savard might hurt the next season.

The trade off if the Leafs really are all in this year.

Hoffaman literally outscored Mantha in the same amount of games last season and comes at a cheaper price tag. This is entirely a change of scenery hockey deal and if it doesn’t work out there is only 1 year left on both contracts.
And please don’t give me Mantha is the more physical player, doesn’t matter when the guy can’t stay healthy.

I get your reasoning here but the trade off is supposed to be Joseph’s extra year on his contract but I understand if you think the Habs would have to add a sweetener.

Mantha isn’t a physical player lmao. Big does not equal physical. Mantha is younger and the cap hit does not justify the caps making this trade. Mantha has a much better chance to have a better season this year in comparison to Hoffman. Much younger and now under a coach that doesn’t blow.

I don’t see how you think the Leafs are moving the better players. While Brodie is a lot better offensively and a better skater than Savard he doesn’t have the physical or d that Savard has. Murray is a cap dump clear and simple and yes Robertson has a much higher ceiling than Mysak but he has to stay healthy to even have a chance as a full time NHL player. Leafs get serviceable players and save almost three mill in cap, trade off is they come with longer term…not that they are worse players.

Sens would 100x rather have Joseph than Armia... Retain 50% and give a 5th maybe

If Joseph doesn't drop from his career shooting % of 13% down to 4.5% last year, I don't even think we're talking about it as a bad contract. He's a good defensive player and a great penalty killer. In an 82 game season next year I think he's money in the bank 12-15 goals and 30ish pts, which for a guy who can keep pucks out of the net especially on the PK I don't even think is bad at a shade under 3mil.

The benefit to the Sens in moving him is to free the cap space up to sign Pinto AND make that last big addition up front (Tarasenko). If that's not on the table, Ottawa benefits more from running it back with Joz.

Mantha is just a better player all around that drives play at both ends of the ice. If he wasn't stuck with bottom 6 players and no PP he would have easily outscored Hoffman who is bad at literally everything except one timers. Much rather see what Mantha can do with a good coach than Hoffman who we know isn't good.
