If that was all it took to get Pesce, the trade would have already been done. Canes pass.

not necessarily, Canes may not be willing to take the offer on the table until they get much much closer to a Karlsson deal

Don't know why the Wings do that for one year of Nylander
Same with the Leafs...for one year of Pesce.

You accidentally have Anaheim sending a pick back to Toronto.

Probably what it would take but Detroit isn’t in a position to do these types of moves yet.

Assuming there's an extension in place that's a no-brainer for DET.

Nylander is gonna cost more than that.

Not happening. I keep asking this question but no one has ever given an example.

Name just once, when a Cup CONTENDING team allows on of their star player to negotiate a contract with another team for the basis of trade, when that player has one year left on his contract.

Shanahan and Trevling have a meeting with Nylander. "We want your sorry ass outta town, so hurry up and negotiate a contract with the Wings, so we trade you to the Wings. If you can't come to an agreement, you are welcome back to the Leaf family for a Cup run."

When has this ever happened?

closest examples are when Tkachuk and Dubois said they wouldn't sign long term with their respective franchises. Which, if Nylander won't budge on 9.5M+, is more or less the case here too. So, those players gave a list of some teams they would work out a deal with and they got the trade done. Tkachuk and Dubois would've signed the 1yr and left like Nylander will under this proposed salary, but they found a solution that could work for everybody. Best examples I can think of off the top of my head but I'm sure other similar situations have gone down before.

And yea, there may not be that many examples, but this is the new age NHL - RFAs would've never pulled the moves Tkachuk and Dubois did in the past, more power is going to the players.

Thanks for proving my point. Tkachuk and Dubois aren't close to example. First PLD was not on Cup contending team. Both Tkachuk were RFAs, free to negotiate with any team.
I'm surprised you haven't traded Matthews, Bertuzzi, Domi, Klingberg, Samsonov, Gordanio, Lafferty.....they are upcoming UFAs without extensions. Do the other 100 upcoming UFAs in the NHL get traded too.

Sorry, this has become a silly CapFriendly fad. Trades seemed to have to come with the totally unrealistic extensions added.

Nylander deal will not happen. Detroit paid much less for an extended Debrincat and got him to sign for 4 years at $7.875M.
They have no reason to give up all that for Nylander who is going to be holding out for for a much higher payday.

It depends on how much he wants Nylander at $10M+ isn't worth it. Someone will probably end up giving it to him but I'd rather keep Rasmussen, Berggren and those picks.

Tkachuk and Dubois wanted out of where they were and isn't the issue with Nylander money. Would he stay in Toronto is they gave him what he wants?

Agreed, but it really depends how much the cap is going up. I don't like $10M+ for any player, but adding Nylander to the top 6 long term would be one heck of a move, and something I would give up Ras and Berg for in a heartbeat.

But would Yzerman trade for him? He is a very very good player but he did hold out for half a season wanting more money and him wanting north of $10M it's pretty clear money is the more important than everything else.
