I still doubt Murray goes on ltir but for arguments sake if he does

Created by: BCAPP
Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 25, 2023
Published: Jul. 25, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
It's cap compliant but barely.

If Murray truly is out for good perhaps a team would take him and Muzzin for ltir stashing for a fairly minor piece (ala the Weber trade or similar) and then the Leafs could bank cap space and get back to 21 players in a number of weeks.
Trades
TOR
Not Anaheim. Any team if they'll send a 6th or 7th. As well have to waive him and he'll get claimed. May as we'll try to get something for him.

Otherwise just waived and fingers crossed I'm wrong

Right? May as well try to get a 6th or 7th or late bloomers in the ahl or something for him. I'd much rather keep him. Sigh. Cap so badly mismanaged

I'm not sure the insurance status on Murray's contract, but IF he can LTIRetire, which is a big if, and I don't believe he will be eligible for, no teams going to want to take the contract if they have to actually pay his salary, since he is owed much above his cap hit this season.

Was it or were so many GMs like the rest of us utterly blindsided by the Wuhan virus.

No, it wasn't COVID. It was a GM signing Bertuzzi and Domi for $8.5m without a plan for how to clear cap space to afford it

So Mathews and Marners contract which when signed the cap had been steadily increasing had nothing to do with it? Sure ok👍😂😂😂😂😂😆. Again you're also assuming Brad Treliving doesn't have other options in his mind for later. We all no what assuming does to you. Makes an (see first three letters of the word) out of you

Uh no. Those contracts fit under the cap just fine even with the flat cap. Spending more than you have is the problem no matter what the cap.

BTW, Matthews has 2 T's and Marner's has a "'s". It's possessive. Spelling and math are usually taught together, but you missed both apparently. Good job 👍

I get those signings. Skill players that will immediately make a roster better. Reaves at 1.3 is just irresponsible in my eyes. That's a contract that will get in the way of small things such as call-ups all season long. I get that he provides veteran leadership, but that is a contract that just didn't need to be signed in my opinion. I feel the same way about the Avs 2 year deal with MacDermid from last year.

I didn't want to blow their minds by listing too many reasons why they have cap issues and rain on their parade that Murray can't go on LTIR. Haha

No it's all good I just had two Leafs fans tell me they had insider info that he was for sure hurt and even if he wasn't they can trade him so it's not an issue. Everything is perfectly fine!

Treliving is sure making Dubas look way more cap savvy. He never spent money he didn't have.

It makes Muzzin the likely one to trade in this manner, he's owed 2 million I believe.

I don't think you can make Treliving look very smart here. Signing Domi and Reaves sure didn't make much sense.

There is no real insider knowledge on the situation but if he isn't bought out today then I think it's safe to say he's injured.

If he ends up ltir'ing THEN the insurance situation on his and muzzin's contracts become a big deal. I fear it isn't insured as Ottawa back then was less likely to spend so I fear they were less likely to insure

If he could just get through a season without injury, he'd be worth more than a 7th. I remember when I thought for sure he and Makar were D partners 4 lyfe.

I completely agree. But I think a lot of leafs fans are just assuming that if he's injured he can be shelved and its all good. Say what you will about Stone and Kucherov, but both those guys had actual long-term injuries. Could they have come back a little earlier? Probably. But it wasn't like they had 10-day injuries and just pretended.

I think if he is hurt and can't be bought out, that's where the real danger lies. Because if you have to pull him off of LTIR during the season you are really far up **** creek.

I thought the buyout window opens 3 days after the award is determined by the salary arbitrator, which was Sunday, and stays open for 48 hours. By that logic, the buyout window opens tomorrow and runs to Friday.
