this is a very reasonable offer. But Leafs pass. They don't need to make any more moves to be cap compliant. They will start with a 20 man roster (several teams did this last year) and they will be cap compliant.

Ooof, there's going to be plenty of people here who are going to tell you that you can't possibly do that.

Not willing to pay the cost to acquire nylander, which would be rightfully high, and then pay him big money when we are already a very high scoring team and have 5-6 great prospects who haven't even played yet (AND Quinn and peterka)

Then they are disregarding history. Leafs did this last year. Vegas started with 19 players a few years ago...

Quite a few teams do this. And I bet we will see more and more teams do this moving forward.

People are suggesting that Pittsburgh need to make cap moves also. They don't and won't.

The leafs literally did this last year and they had the a terrific season. Those who say it can't be done just haven't paid attention.

Is it ideal? Of course not, but sometimes it's necessary just to get the season going.

Yup, injuries happen and you get emergency call ups. Anyone gets hurt for 10 games and you get more space.

Sabres fans won’t wanna hear this (& I can already hear the laughs and the screams over this).. but any Nylander deal to Buffalo , assuming there’s an extension in place, starts with Owen Power. Leafs need defence, he’s the young guy they’d build their defence core around. Is it a high price? Absolutely. But interdivisional trades usually cost more and Nylander is easily a top 10 offensive play driver and arguably top 5. You don’t get those kinda players cheap.

Power in the deal would negate the possibility of a 1st round pick involved, but there’s still be a prospect/fringe NHL player in it. Likely looking at Power + 3rd/4th round pick + Greenway type of deal. Leafs would likely add a bit too, but those would be the main pieces

Sabres wouldn’t do this in reality either
