If you remove EP2 and Gudbranson I guess it works. However if you're selling Petey everyone has to go though

Sabres will fill up Quinn`s spot from within. This is "perfect" opportunity to take a closer look at Kulich/Savoie

Canucks have no reason to move Pettersson for any less. A 24 year old top 5C and borderline top 10 player in the league gets a huge return like that

This is exactly why a Pettersson to CBJ trade won't happen. Vancouver doesn't have any reason to move Petey, and CBJ have no reason to move 2 of their top 3 prospects, which happen to fill major holes in the lineup (theoretically), have more years of team control, and fit the future window.

However, remove DPetey, Gudbranson, and the first from the original trade, and the ask is still 3 recent top-12 1st-round picks. Swap Mateychuk and Sillinger for Johnson or Fantilli and it becomes 2 recent top-6 picks, all from strong draft years. Petey was a 5th-OA, and Jiricek and Fantilli both have Petey-level ceilings (or better). It may seem fair, but it's also an insane move, with no recent comparable history and no chance at actually happening.

Pettersson is at worst the 6th best C in the league

McDavud, MacKinnon, Matthews, Draisaitl are for sure ahead. He’s close with Crosby and arguably ahead. And definitely arguably a top 10 player in the league

Yes he is though. 100+ points, high end defensive play, elevates any linemate he plays with. The only knock on him is he’s not great at faceoffs

If ur center can’t take faceoffs he’s a glorified winger

That's a little optimistic. He's a top-10, not top-6, C in the league (McDavid, Draisaitl, MacKinnon, Hughes, Crosby, Matthews, and Barkov are all arguably ahead of him), and definitely not a top-10 player (Matthew Tkachuk, Kaprizov, Marner, Kucherov, Karlsson, Fox, Makar, Shesterkin, Sorokin, Hellebuyck, and others I'm probably missing enter that conversation, in addition to those centers). He's probably top-20 with room to grow.

If we're still talking trade, Jiricek and Fantilli are expected to jump into this list in a few years, and their floors should be top-15 or 20 at their positions. Johnson is probably the next tier. Asking for two of these in a Petey deal is too much.

I’d put him ahead of Hughes and Barkov right now. Hughes could surpass him this season though

As for overall players, kinda tough to rank goalies with skaters, so I’ll say borderline top 10 skater. I’d put him ahead of Karlsson, Marner, and arguably Kaprizov of the guys you listed

My top 10 skaters would be McDavid, MacKinnon, Matthews, Makar, Draisaitl, Tkachuk, Pastrnak, Fox, Kucherov, and one of Crosby/Pettersson/Kaprizov

Then I guess you must not consider McDavid, MacKinnon, Pettersson, Hughes, Thompson, Eichel, or Stutzle as good centers because by you’re logic they’re all glorified wingers

Career faceoff % for all of them
McDavid: 47.3%
MacKinnon: 45.7%
Pettersson: 43.3%
Hughes: 35.4%
Thompson: 41.6%
Eichel: 44.5%
Stutzle: 39.6%

All below 50%, so which ones are good exactly?

Why will they get better either age but Pettersson won’t? Oh wait it doesn’t fit your narrative that’s why

Fun fact, most players don’t improve too much at faceoffs with age. McDavid is the only one who actually made some significant improvements. Hughes is and will always be bad at faceoffs
