There is a decent argument that Georgiev was Colorado's MVP last season. Unless he drops off significantly, then the Avs are the wrong team.

LA or NJ make sense to me.

Why do folks think is necessary to sign their own upcoming UFAs. Jets may/may not be better spending 9m X 5 elsewhere instead of Schefeile.

The Jets can't sign better UfAs though and are reluctant to trade futures for established players so keeping the guys they have is crucial for any on ice success even if its middling results.

Edit: I'm not saying I agree with that approach but just that its the reality of the situation, this is a tough organization to cheer for... 🙄

As of now LA and NJ are really the only teams that make sense as a potential landing spot for Hellebuyck, the Sabres too I guess but it sounds like they're gonna go with Levi/Comrie/UPL and see what happens.

There's a very limited market for Hellebuyck, sure hope the Jets don't sign him, his next contract is gonna be an anchor.

If it came down to signing one of Helle or Scheifele it'd definitely be Scheifele for me, no way would I be signing Hellebuyck to some $8M+ ×5-8 yr anchor contract.

The best course of action is trading them both but this is an organization that's content with being mid so they might try to extend one or both of them.

We don’t spend big on UFAs. It’s certainly possible he doesn’t want to resign here but if he’s open to it then we have to do it.

You wouldn’t want to rent one of the best goalies in the league for a cup run? I didn’t invoke Georgiev in the trade.

No, not if Georgiev is playing well. They committed to him as their starter and are going to ride him. It would be a crappy move for morale if they pulled the rug out.

Also (again assuming Georgiev is playing well), I think Colorado will be more focused on other needs if making a tdl acquisition (top 6 forward and/or upgrade over Johnson at D).

I looked at this from your angle and just put out an ACGM to show how I think you’d have the best team in the league. Girard has to go though.

I have no reason to doubt The Athletic's reporting on Hellebuyck not wanting to re-sign or Hellebuyck's own words that all that matters to him is winning but here is a scenario where Hellebuyck might consider something like that. If the Jets offer $8 million x 7yrs and Petkau's information gathering says that Hellebuyck could only get 4yr deal in the open market (ends at 35yrs old), then he has to make the call if chasing a cup is worth giving up $24 million in this type of scenario.

Girard isn't a cap dump. Moving him forces Manson into a top 4 role, which he probably can't handle, and leaves the team one injury away from having Johnson or Foote in the top 4. I'd much rather keep him and let Georgiev keep the starting job.

Bottom line is this: I would love to have Hellebuyck. He's been a top goalie in the league for a long time and a consistent basis. But it's just not realistic and also isn't how Colorado views that position. Two of their last three starting goalies (Grubauer and Georgiev) illustrate how they operate. Namely they bet on a guy with starter potential and allocate cap to the skaters instead. Kuemper was the outlier, and they only ended up with him because plans a and b fell through. Worked out pretty well, but he wasn't their first choice.

Oh man, the Jets signing Helle to a $8M×7 would be seriously vomit inducing... 🤢... 🤮
