Petry is a very good d men at 4.6 million. Him at 2.3 is laughably amazing. And Faksa is a much worse contract than Petry's outright, then you add in the production they both give their teams

He's 36 yo come December. It's 2 not 3 years and he's missed over double digit games 3 of the last 4 years and someone 36 who hasn't been able to stay healthy the last several years isn't nearly as valuable as you seem to think IMO

Yes and? Faksa also has 2 years left. Petry wont suddenly become a below replacement player in the 2 years.

Minimum?

This is more than twice what I'd pay with a gun to my head.

Petry has played 60+ games in all seasons except one since 2016. Hes still a 57th percentile WAR player giving a team good defence and offensive contribution. His legs havent fallen off and 2 years at that production should be worth more than Chiarot with his below replacement level production.

He was averaging 40 points a season and still hit that per 82 games. His cost per point his low for a dman. And his cost per WAR is also low for a dman.

Edmundson couldve gotten a 1st if his back wasnt shot for 2 years straight. Kinda like how the Habs got a 1st for Chiarot whos likw 3x less the player as petry

Hed be the wings 2nd best d man and top 5 player easily. Maybe if they were contending theyd actually make the trade

Also Yzerman gave Chairot 4 years at more than what petry would be getting paid in this trade. Id point the gun at him first

I am not sure about that one haas Dallas is already pretty old on the back line...... while I agree getting Petry at $2,343,750 is an absolute steal there are 2 things:

1. Not sure Dallas feels the need to add an elder stateman like Petry to their back end (although at cap hit not sure where they're going to get a better player)

2. There's a possibility Dallas was actually on Petry's NTC. Since its half the teams one can only speculate who's on and it and who's not. Only confirmed team on it is SJS (only way MTL got involved in this trade in the first place).

Then keep him because as Phil Esposito has said the legs can just all of a sudden go. 60 games hmm so missing 20-25% of games is inconsequential huh?

Chiarot's contract is bad.
Petry isn't even worth close to this.
Both can be true, as they are not mutually exclusive.
Petry would be the 3rd best defenseman, maybe 4th.
He's not better than Seider nor Walman. He and Määta are close, though.

Also, saying that Detroit would've been on Petry if Detroit were contenders is hilarious considering he went to Montreal, a definitively worse team.

Just like how last offseason Petry’s minimum prices was a 1st+?

And Faksa’s contract isn’t even that bad. Maybe he’s a little overpaid, but he’s a great shutdown 3C
