Not saying that value is or isn’t fair, but Byram is not a need, Mailloux is prob better for MTL than Byram

Avs easily pass. Why would a contending team trade a stud young top 4 D for an okay prospect, a prospect who’s a PR nightmare, a bad, overpaid RHD, an injury prone middle 6 player, and a 1st?

A cap dump, two average at best prospects, and a 1st for a young top pair d man?
How could Colorado say no!

You are referring to Bowen being injury prone. HABS taking all the risk or did I misunderstand

Monahan is the injury prone player I’m referring to. Yes Byram has struggled with injuries, but he’s worth far more than that package. You’d need one high end piece to headline it, and to take out the cap dump in Savard

The 2025 1st likely the high end piece since it's a lottery pick. Also, you're using cap dump to broadly, Savard is a fine NHL dman who is getting paid what he should. Avs do say no to this trade but it's not as horrendous as you're making it out to be

The value might be fair - don't know the prospect beside the ****storm around Mailloux.
The retention should be one Savard and one of the forward prospects should be D-man.
Monohan isn't reliable as an option.

The thing is for a contending team a 2025 pick isn’t exactly an appealing piece to target

And Savard is pretty awful now. He’s been worse than Tyler Myers over the last 3 seasons. At 3.5Mx2 I’d say he’s a cap dump

Cap dump is someone having to pay to get rid of the contract and Savard isn't at that level. Gallagher? Sure but a bottom 4 dman making that money isn't at that level. Myers makes like 4 million more than Savard, even Edmundson got a positive return and he was a lot worst than Savard. Savards biggest problem is him being a top pair player for the Habs when he just can't handle that anymore

Edmundson was half retained so he only cost 1.75M against the cap and only got a 3rd round pick. Myers makes 2.5M more than Savard, not 4M. Neither are worth their contract, and neither would have positive value in a trade

I'm gonna try and restrain myself. Here goes.

I don't think you all realize just how good Byram really is and will be in the future. I would have thought the Cup run where he played top 4 minutes and scored almost 0.5 points per game would do it, but I guess not. Maybe we pay more attention to our own guys, maybe he was overshadowed by Makar, or perhaps both.

Here is something to chew on. Byram is behind Makar (and others) for PP time. You can't just go by points and say he's not a top dman in terms of production. Compare him to Seider (untouchable and rightly so) at even strength, and you'll see Byram scores 0.38 points per game compared to Seider's 0.27. The dude is elite and pretty much untouchable. His points would look crazy if he were on a team that made him qb of pp1.

It would be interesting to know how you arrived at that conclusion. Pretty bold to claim that a player that hasn't suited up in a single NHL game is better than one that has a Cup and played the most 5v5 minutes of any D in a SCF. And the idea that this return is anywhere near acceptable for Makar is absurd.

I expect Bo to blow up this year and then really ramp up production when Toews is gone after this season and he's on PP1.
