I was never one of the people saying Ottawa's top 6 would be better than the Leafs, but I did think we'd compete. Losing Josh Norris 8 games in was too big for a young team to deal with - not that I'll expect you to acknowledge that... Pinto did what he could but as a rookie was not ready to play as a top 6 pivot. That also played a huge part in DeBrincat never finding his scoring touch in Ottawa. And even with all that they still could've found their way into a wildcard spot if not for having to go 7 goalies deep in their final push.

I wonder which team I’d rather be a fan of - top 5 team, playoffs 7 straight years, superstar players, most popular team in league, centre of the hockey universe. Or one of the least popular teams that plays in a barn, has missed playoffs six straight years, and is outnumbered by Leaf (& Hab) fans in their home arena. Tough call # farmteam

I wonder what team I would rather be a fan of: one that makes it to the ECF, loses in double overtime, and decides "not good enough", and rebuilds to try to build a better product.

Or, a team that takes 20 years to get out of round 1. Year after year thinks to itself, "this is fine, let's try the same thing again next year". Or, my fave, celebrates getting tremendous respect in the handshake line.
