People get that the sens aren't going to trade Pinto, right? Only reason he isn't signed is because of needing to free up cap space. Cap space they definitely don't have for Goodrow

I think if you want Pinto it's probably closer to him and Laf 1 for 1. Just makes no sense for either team to trade them right now.

Also Ottawa if OTT were to trade Pinto, they can't take any money back. Like $0.

That makes 0 sense for NY. Laffy is way better than Pinto, obviously has more talent. Plus he had more points than Pinto this year, being a year younger

So OTT gets Goodrow and is then forced to figure out how to shed even more cap than they needed to in order to sign Pinto. Yeah. I see no problem with this...

Of course, not how the Sens want to trade Pinto, well if they had any interest in trading him to begin with

It depends on how you project Lafreniere. It's a center vs winger. I see Pinto as a Phillip Danault level player, 50-60 pts paces, very solid 2-way hockey. Lafreniere I honestly don't know at this point

But If I'm trading Pinto, it would require me acquiring a guy like Laf for example. If not (like in this proposal), easy PASS

It would seem the Sens are going to have to pay someone to take Joseph's contract. I suppose an overpay for Pinto could satisfy PD also. Am I missing something and if not what does the trade look like to you?

There's no Pinto trade (barring some obscene overpayment) that makes more sense for Ottawa than clearing the small amount of space needed to sign him. There's no real way to address the loss of their 3C without running into the same cap problem they have with Pinto

I was talking more about Joseph, but if the cap gap to overcome is small. Are talking about a 21-man roster; How much $$ is needed to clear to be able to sign Pinto?

The expected number is in the 2.5mil zone, which is right in line with a lot of deals signed by young forwards in similar positions. Moving Joseph gives Ottawa roughly 1.3 mil after signing Pinto to fill the bottom six winger spot Joz leaves open (imo that probably just being Sokolov at like 775-825k). If it's Kubalik instead, it's much tighter, but still workable. Branny at 2mil can be moved to clear space for Pinto, but you're probably looking at a 20 man roster, and he's also the best of the three imo.

21 man roster isn't ideal, but I'd rather run with one spare this year and get Pinto on that 2/3 year deal vs dropping the money for a 1 year deal + room for a 2nd spare. It's not an ideal situation, but it's extremely far from the "you have to trade Pinto" disaster fans of other teams are making it out to be.

It's gonna be tight this year no matter what, but Ottawa's hardly the first team to have to play tight to the cap, and they're in a really strong position as far as long-term cap outlook is concerned. Most of their dead money is off the books next year, they'll have UFA money off the books (guys like Kubalik and Senko are very likely one and dones), and the cap takes a huge leap this summer. They've got the core all locked up, and those contracts are only gonna get better.
