If thats all it took for Tampa to sign Stamkos, it would be done before he hits FA

TB has the room to sign Stamkos for 6.125, for that price he stays in Tampa, hell they might even offer him more if that's all it took.

Stamkos isn't leaving Tampa to take this much of a pay cut. He clearly puts some value into being a guy who sticks with his one team his whole career, so it would take a huge rift developing for him to not only leave the Lightning, but to take $6.125M from the Leafs to do so.

Yeah, no chance Anaheim takes that trade. There's a number of 1RW's available as UFA this coming year and Anaheim is in a good position to throw money at one. Zero reason to ship out Drysdale AND a pick.

Best case scenario Anaheim tosses Toronto a mid pick to get negotiating rights after it's clear he isn't signing, similar to how NJ got a pick for Severson.

Highway robbery?

They have zegras, terry, Carlsson, mactavish, and others, they add another winger for their future #1 dman and pay a 2nd... the leafs are going to lose Nylander in FA this summer or possibly trade his rights for a 5th..

Leaf fans need to temper their expectations

If Willy extended with Anaheim the amount they gave up for him would be highway robbery as sure there is potential with Drysdale but not enough to make them panic as look at that prospect pool of Dman Mintyukov, Hellson, Leneau. Zellweger, Lacombe, Hinds, etc.

Also Zegras is not yet defined as their future number 1 D yet as they got so many good Dman prospects rn.

A deal involving Will going with an extension for Drysdale and a 2nd is honestly not bad for ANA at all but in the end its also not the time for them to be going for a move like this if they feel they aint 100% ready

They add a 40 goal scorer whose extended and dont lose their 1st. Thus continuing the rebuild and still having a chance to add future youngsters

None of those D has the pedigree that Drysdale has.. he is already slotted in on anahiems 1RD spot..

Willy is a winger that doesn't play defense and scored 30+ points of his 80+ on the PP..

The easiest position to fill in the nhl is winger and the hardest is top dmen with right handed shots.

Also if Anaheim wanted to spend big money on another forward which I don't see why they would in a rebuild, just look at next year's UFA class... schiefle, lindholm, stamkos, duchene, kane, bertuzzi, etc.

As said before we have no idea yet. When they all start playing NHL games yet we will get the information needed. As sure Drysdale can look better now but guys can leapfrog over him

Also sure ANA can go FA route but whats the guarantee any of those guys will sign with them.

One of the only teams with money.. I'm sure if they can afford Nylander 10 mill they can afford lindholm who would be the most expensive I'd think.

But they get to keep their future and get a better player

Highway robbery is ANA just waiting until the summer to get him as a FA. Not moving Drys for someone they have a shot at for nothing but cap

But whats the guarantee he will want to sign with them in FA over a a competitor that also has money

This is often what people miss

Oh we can just sign him in FA what is the guarantee he wants to go

Trading for him with an extension eliminates that

Yes it means giving up something but it also ensures they get the guy they want.

There is no guarantee. But ANA isn’t competing for a few years regardless. I’ll take 20% chance of Nylander in FA with no loss of Drys over 100% chance we lose Drys to get Nylander.

Also, your latter points aren’t really accurate. If Nylander is willing to waive for ANA in a sign and trade, then he’s willing to play for ANA long term and would entertain them in FA. Basically, if this trade is even an option, then yes, Nylander clearly has interest in spending the next 7ish years in ANA. We’ll keep Drys and shoot our shot. If we miss? Oh well. We have a couple more years to add big names before we’re competing anyways

Rebuilding teams don’t trade their young star prospects for players in their prime while still fighting for 1st overall picks
