Absolutely not he’s overrated not a player you can win with due to his lack physicality and doesn’t block shots his game is very incomplete in my opinion

Easy to point out the weak spots, but completely deny the talent

Karlsson has abysmal defensive stats and he's not physical, but is in the top 10?

That’s a better list but still wild that you have Pietrangelo ahead of Hughes and spurgeon in the top 20

Okay... but using YOUR logic, he shouldn't be in the top 10 either, right?

Karlsson shouldn't be on the list period, he is not a defenseman.

Might as well throw Draisaitl on the list at that point. He plays better defense than karlsson and scores more

Your list is way better but still a fair bit off.
Main things that jump out are
- no Ekblad, Letang, Werenski, Jones, Rielly, or Weegar. All could absolutely make an argument for top 20, at least over Spurgeon imo
- Slavin is far too low on the list, should be top 10

He’s good, but not top 10 anymore, an cups don’t matter when talking about individual players.

Spurgeon has been incredibly underrated for YEARS being both really good defensively and offensively. Jones sucks, Rielly is overrated, Ekblad fell off. Only one that could make sense is Weegs

Anymore? Coming off a 54pt season and was a top guy in Vegas's cup run. He's still him.

3 years ago he was easily top 10 but, Makar, heiskanen, Hughes, fox, mcavoy, Josi, Hedman, Slavin, toews, dahlin are all better and there’s probably a few more guys as well

Spurgeon is fine offensively, very good defensively. Pulock should be in your top 20 by that logic

Jones had a a very good season last year and was solid the year before that. He absolutely doesn't suck, he's about 1-1.5M overpaid only and playing on a team designed to tank.

Ekblad had quite the list of injuries last year. You don't just "fall off" from being a top ~7 defenseman in the league at age 27.

Rielly gets Toronto hate, he's underrated if anything, offensively he's one of the better play driving defensemen in the league and he's serviceable but not great defensively. Really not that different from Hughes, who you have 9th.

Weegar should be ranked no more than 2 spots behind Toews, they are nearly identical players

Some big key issues here.

I don't know what season you were watching, but it wasn't Jones's season. He was terrible. His 5v5 metrics were in the gutter and everyone KNEW his contract was a massive overpayment even back when he signed it.

Spurgeon consistently produces very good 5v5 defensive and offensive impacts, people just often overlook him because he bounces around the powerplays and isn't an elite passer. As for Pulock, I just forgot to include him.

Even if Ekblad suffered from injuries, it's affected his play. Only 38 points in 71 gams and had a whopping -14 last season. In my terms, falling off isn't much of a stretch. He had a big fall off last season.

Rielly gets Toronto hate because sure, he can move the puck, but is terrible defensively. Brodie had one of the best defensive seasons of his career because he was responsible for constantly bailing Rielly out in the defensive zone. He also rides the success off of how good PP1 is. As for the Hughes comparison, it's not even close. Hughes is like 3x better defensively than Rielly. AND Hughes scores more points on a much worse team

I just completely forgot about Weegar.
