Losing my starting goalie (Frederik Andersen) who I drafted 48th overall in the 3rd round, has arguably been my biggest downfall this season. I fully believed he could have been top 5 in goalie points playing behind the even further improved Canes defense. Him going down in the 1st week of November after 5 starts, due to blood clot issues, was devastating for my team. I've never been a big believer in taking a great goalie or goalies in fantasy. Haven't ever played in a league with more than 12 teams. This year has taught me that if you don't draft a good goalie, you aren't going to get one, as FA and the waiver wire become obsolete for quality starters. I won my league the last 2 seasons. 1st year with no one other than Varlamov as my goalie, and last season with no goalies rostered at all after January 1st.
I may have skated by with that strategy previously, but I clearly underestimated the competition of a hockey forum website league.

My 4th pick at #49 overall being Dougie Hamilton didn't help either. With a great start to the year, only to tear his pectoral muscle the week after Thanksgiving seriously hindered my big game scoring.

With having a weaker offense this season, I was counting on guys like Barbashev to have a huge season. He's played well and is on pace for 55ish points. I however was expecting a massive season from him alongside Eichel and Marchessault fresh off a Stanley Cup hoisting.

Andre Burakovsky being injured for nearly 3 quarters of the season thus far also hampered my output. I was counting on him to have a big year and pick up some slack for me.

Overall I believe my biggest problem this season has just been timing and luck. Starting the year 1-5, and losing 3 of those games by less than 10 points had me playing catch-up all year. I also was far and away the league leader in points against in the 2023 calendar year. I had a few weeks where my entire team didn't show up as well.

I started to turn things around, sitting at 5-6 on Christmas. But my current 4 game skid where I again lost 2 very close games (103.5 to 107.3, and 74.5 to 77.4) has me pretty much dead in the water.

Currently 5-10 with 8 games remaining, and a lot of teams I need to leapfrog, my season is realistically finished.

Far from throwing in the towel, but unless I'm able to work magic through trade, and pull off a miracle, it's over.

I hate Torey Krug, man dropped a 5 assist game and might’ve made me lose (I currently am winning by 0.3 but Demko should get points for his W today), this would make me 0-3 in close score matchups

I hate this league, my team puts up an 100 point performance (okay 99.2 but that's basically 100) against a team that has an inactive GM and I get Shesterkinned

No offence but I think the biggest problem for you was the fact you didn’t have any star power. Your best player was like Vincent Trochek lol

My star power is goaltending and depth (when they actually do something), it also doesn't help I'm 3rd in points against. My team just shows up in weird moment, my first 7 games were really rough (1-6, only had over 90 points once) but since then, my team has gone 5-7 and had over 90 points 8 times, my team just seems incapable of showing up in the right matchups

Yes true, you do have good goaltending and depth but still, it would have been nice for you if you had a star forward or defense man

Trocheck's actually been one of the better forwards this year (#20 in total points at forward I believe) and I did have Sergachev who was doing great, my problem was more or less that I don't have anyone with Trocheck as good forwards and Sergachev didn't stay healthy, I also tend to play it safe (taking constant producers over boom or bust producers) so my team has problems when facing a team with players on a hot streak when my goaltenders aren't lights out

120+ point week and I still lose. You gotta be kidding me lol
