I don't know how fast Columbus can decline, but it's gonna be very fast

Here's the age old problem with trading Petersson next summer. He's one year away from being a UFA. So why would out of playoff CBJ trade a first, a second line centre with four years of control and
Jiircek with seven years of control for Petersson.
And even if Petersson was signing to a 12 X 8 year deal, would the CBJ be better having 4.5m Johnston, Jiricek, a first, 7m in cap instead of just one Petersson?

This site is getting crazy today. Dunno how so many people are thinking the Jackets would consider Jiricek, Kj, and their 2024 1st. What's worse is that there are some CBJ fans thinking it would be a good trade.

If Pettersson is getting traded it's because he has told Vancouver he isn't re-signing and that means their hand is being forced. The return is not going to be the dream scenario Canucks fans want it to be in that case.

Tampa Bay probably declines. While Garland at a $3m cap hit for 2 years is an attractive piece, Tampa needs Jeannot's grit and physicality just as much. And Finley is a solid prospect. Paying this price to get Garland is just too high I think

People were saying that for Tkachuk and he brought back Huberdeau + Weegar + a 1st + a prospect ...

I'd be wiling to move KJ in a deal for Pettersson 100%, but not Jiricek. Top two prospect at his position in the league, the most in demand position after 1C? Not moving that for a luxury good that will cost 13+ million a year. Fantilli and Jiricek are off the table, but nothing else should be if Pettersson is willing to re-sign.

Big difference is those guys were pending UFA’s as well (excluding the prospect). In the above scenario they’re giving up guys with at least 4 years worth team control.

it's weird. i thought calgary won the trade by a mile at the time - funny what a year of hindsight can do

The deal above is atrocious for CBJ

But when Tkachuk got traded, almost everyone were saying W for CGY especially if they can resign both, which they did

Yes, a year later it's bad for CGY but at the time of the trade, it was an excellent return

Petey is NOT going to sign in Ohio, aside from the taxes that’s a huge downgrade from Vancouver

Woah woah woah hey now, it’s not that bad of a trade for us. Weegar has been really good for us and Huberdeau is going to have a bounce back season. Sutter did him absolutely no favours and bounced him around from line to line, not allowing him to gain any chemistry with his linemates. And plus he said he lost his confidence last year but has since re-gained it. Also we have Overtime Megan’s ex boyfriend who brought us some publicity lmao

Vancouver is awful man. Homeless people ****ting on the sidewalks, tents everywhere, tons of poverty and drugs - constant wildfires in the area and of course, astronomically high taxes/fuel prices. vancouver isn't some kind of wonderful utopia.

Insanely cheap cost of living (you can get a mansion in the nicest suburb for under a million USD), a safe clean city (the crime-ridden areas of the city are nowhere near the arena or where players live) where he'd be almost entirely left alone because he doesn't play for OSU, almost no media to deal with and the ones that there are aren't insane, and getting to play with Johnny Gaudreau, Patrik Laine, and Adam Fantilli probably for most of a decade? Pettersson could do much worse. I agree, unlikely he'd want to come to Columbus and his agent certainly won't allow it, but let's not act like there aren't positives here.

Ok yeah true but Vancouver is still a way nicer city and a place I would much rather live in (if I could afford to) over Columbus. Nothing against Ohio, it’s just boring

Yeah I know I’m from Calgary and have been to Vancouver many times, but it’s still a beautiful city minus all of its problems

I think Tampa considers that trade. They could definitely use a top 6 winger like Garland. With the retention added in as well, it helps make the cap issue more feasible. Jeannot does.bring tougjness and probabaly some scoring, but if he's just going to be used on the 4th line in Tampa, it's not hard to see Tampa, despite the heavy price paid to get him, using him to acquire a bigger need(especially one with term).
