Chicago isn't paying, especially a third, for an aging UFA winger

Hawks are rebuilding, they aren’t about to trade a 3rd round pick for a guy making $4.7m and has been awful for the last few seasons.

Why is a rebuilding giving up multiple assets to move older players that can still play.

That Detroit trade is terrible for San Jose. With SJS retaining $4M. Couture >>>>>>>>>>>>Veleno and 2025 1st round pick (SJS)>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.Veleno

Couture and Hertl are still valuable NHL centers.

Buffalo declines, horrible contract and I like the player but would rather see what Savoie turns into or if I was to trade him. Use him in a Top 3RD package.

I agree that the value does not make sense, but also Buffalo is not a destination that makes sense at all. They have Cozens and Thompson locked up long term, and Mittelstadt has been playing a top 6 level since halfway through last year and is an RFA after this season. In addition to that, they still have Krebs (who may not reach the top 6 level we hoped for, but still should be a reasonable 3/4C), Ostlund, and Savoie. The only center I see the Sabres adding externally in the next few years would be a 4C. Center is the strength of the Sabres roster, now and likely into the future, spending assets to improve the defense makes more sense.
