Makes no sense at all. Cates is decent but Calgary needs a 1st line center not a 3rd line center. Sanheim is also a fine player but trading for him is counterintuitive if the Flames are selling. Adding a 2nd while is just the cherry on top, your reasoning is irrational too. Plenty of teams would have interest in adding a 1C like Lindholm, "incentivizing" a team to take him is just ridiculous.

Also you are the one who traded for Joseph to begin with, you put Calgary over the cap with that trade so it can't even be made without doing the Zadorov and/or Vladar trades first

If they just re-sign Hanifin or (even acquire Girard- don't think COL does that trade), then they don't really have a need for Sanheim (who is not available: was told he wasn't getting traded + he has a NMC). The last top-4 spot can just be left open for a guy like Brannstrom and maybe Niemela and other prospects to compete for along with a veteran FA signing.

Also, as Ledge_And_Dairy pointed out, leaving that gaping hole down the middle still makes no sense just to fill a (self-made) hole in the 2nd pairing on defense.

Neither team would want that Flyers trade. It’s not great value for Lindholm and at the same time why on earth would we want Joseph and retain on Sanheim for 8 years?

Sens most likely do that since that would allow them to sign Pinto and solidify the defense. Chabot would really need a guy like Tanev. It also allows to have one of the big 3 always on the ice.
