Even though it's great value for Tampa in that deal, they probably decline. They can't fit that $4m in cap hit once Vasy comes back, even if they roll a 20 man roster.

Come on now the Wings don't even consider that. Not giving up a 1st or Wallinder for a rental.

I hate to hate, but absolutely nothing about what Brannstrom has done since coming to Ottawa has made him worth a 2nd. Throw in the fact that Ottawa is cap strapped and clearly does not like him, and offloading him for a 4th is pretty solid value in my opinion.

Can get more for tanev if he’s half retained but doubt it’s from the coyotes they likely don’t make the playoffs this year

Sabres 100% are NOT doing that
We just signed Dahlin & Power to giant contracts, not going to do so with another defenseman- especially not a LH one

Zero chance

We don't have the cap space to afford that when Vasilevskiy returns and we don't need Vladar.

A 4th round pick rarely ever crush a 3rd pairing in his 23 y/o season

He has also averaged 24 pts per 82 games since his 21 y/o season, from a 3rd pairing, without much reliance on PP pts

Sens need him for now so keep him instead of getting a low probability pick

A 4th is too much too. Brannstrom is a bust. We don't want him at all he wouldn't even make the roster as the 7th/8th D.

lol you're really something...

Reads that :

- Brannstrom has averaged 24 pts per 82 games since his 21 y/o season, from a 3rd pairing, without much reliance on PP pts

- Brannstrom was among the best NHL D-men in both Expected Goals For AND Against last season

And says "Derp derp Brannstrom is a bust derp derp"

Oh and he did that while carrying a guy that completely fell off a cliff last season (Holden) and had to retire. Brannstrom just turned 24 y/o and has 197 NHL games and many more coming if health allows.

I had skipped this part but what makes you say that actually? Sens rushed to sign him to an extension on July 1st before anyone else.

Seem about right, maybe even a little low.

Wow you really undervalue Branstrom. 2nd seems about right, honestly maybe even a little low. He is a little small and unfortunately, his currently very good contract is only for 1 year. What do you think of some sort of Hoglander for Branstrom swap?

I would do that swap but at the draft. Sens need Brannstrom this season and there's no spot for another Top-9 forward, Hoglander would be stuck on the 4th line this season.

Next season, Kleven will most likely be on the roster so too many LHDs, will need to move Brannstrom anyway and a right return for him would be a good young 2-way forward

Ice time, mostly. If he is as good as many are saying he is, which could very well be true, he would not be averaging well less than 20 minutes of ice time a game and Ottawa would not be trading for guys like Chychrun

Oh but ice--time is a very basic argument... NHL teams obviously look at a lot more than this, they all spend a good amount of money on advanced stats.

The reason why Brannstrom doesn't get more ice-time is simply because he is a LHD. Thomas Chabot, Jake Sanderson and now Jakob Chychrun also are... Brannstrom was playing behind Chabot/Sanderson last season. Adding Chychrun is not ideal in the LHD/RHD balance but I think they were assuming Chychrun would play RD (he did in Arizona at times), but it's actually Chabot who has been doing it. They really needed a Top-4 RHD but Chychrun is the guy Dorion went after. Again not ideal and Dorion rarely does good moves so not going to complain on this one

https://www.nhl.com/news/topic/Fantasy/nhl-fantasy-hockey-top-50-defenseman-rankings-pools-282830728

20. Jakob Chychrun, OTT
23. Jake Sanderson, OTT
39. Thomas Chabot, OTT (INJ.)

Ottawa has 3 Top NHL D-men and they are all LHDs so it's going to be very hard for Brannstrom to crack more minutes in Ottawa. In the past he did play several 22+ minutes games (and looked good) when Chabot was injured but this time he got injured first... He will eventually be moved to get another opportunity somewhere else and to make room for Tyler Kleven who is more the type they need to add on their defense (physical and mean)
