Great title, but completely irrelevant.

1. Zadorov isn't the same player he was when we traded for him.
2. Trade markets vary so brining up 2019 is useless.

Flames not trading Andersson. I still maintain anytrade involving Toronto does not include Klingberg coming back.

im sure they wouldnt mind to flip him for a draft pick. in todays cap era, every trade has to be about same money in n out

My reasoning is we only have 3 retention spots and there's no way we are taking Klingberg full value as we will use those spots on more valuable UFA's to increase return.

Yeah klingberg most likely dump location is San Jose imo bc they'll be looking to take on cap through non retention methods as they only have 1 slot

He isn't? Zadorov was a big 3rd pairing defenseman who played well defensively and took a lot of penalties. He's now a big 3rd pairing defenseman who plays well defensively and takes a lot of penalties and has now shown with more usage that he has trouble playing higher in the lineup. The only case you could make for him being something different would rely on his 1 season where he scored goals which he is regressing from already this season so it would be a very weak argument to make.

That seems like the reason you would take Klingberg full value. Zadorov is a 3rd pairing defenseman making just short of 4 mil aav. The Flames will have to take bad cap back or retain to move him regardless of where he's going. They also probably want to save retention slots for Tanev, Lindholm and Hanifin. Being able to move Zadorov without retention would be the bonus for them and the reason they take bad cap like Kilingberg in return. The OP ****ed it up by doing both, sure, but taking bad cap back isn't going to be the breaking point of a Zadorov trade so the Flames can keep their 3 retentions for the bigger assets.

Andersson gets a 1st plus plus on his own, Zadorov probably gets a 2nd and it's going to cost at least a 4th to offload Klingberg. Not too many teams interested in a guy who has played 2 games of professional North American Hockey and a 25 year old tweener defenceman with 66 career NHL games.

Wishful Homer Thinking
- Andersson will not be traded, if he is it'll certainly be more than that
- Zadorov is better than he was in 2021
- Klingberg is a cap dump
- Quality > Quantity
- The Flames aren't obligated to make a trade with the Leafs, they will not do them any favours

Timmins is a low-risk, high-reward type of player, injuries have derailed his career which is why he's only played 54 career AHL games, so not your typical tweener. Obviously, no team will want him as a main piece in a trade but I'm sure many teams would take a flyer on him as a throw-in or if he was ever placed on waivers especially considering his most recent work has looked promising. If a 2nd is what CGY wants for Zadorov then a 3rd+Hirvonen (if they are interested)+Timmins would probably do the trick.

Andersson probably gets two 1sts easily but he's more than likely unavailable, so no point in putting too much thought into it.

Oh yeah sure. Flames are trading one of the best bargain contracts in the league in Andersson. 3 years left on his contract. 🙄

This is an interesting proposal. Not all trades are equal and the desperation levels of these big Z comp trades are vastly different. Big Z didn't fit with CHI. Like at all. We had high hopes, but he stunk. He WAS the stereotype giant and giantly slow dman that could hit, but not much else. CGY fans swear his speed has somehow increased (I very much doubt that), but what's more likely is he's more confident in the system and can get his slow behind into better positions in time. They're likely looking for a better return that what they gave CHI...although I do like Wyatt Kaiser so far.

***EDIT*** I do like Big Z though. Very personable and funny guy. Just didn't help at all in the ice.

Well Conroy then says remove klingberg and Anderson or pound sand, and I'm sure they can't flip klingberg for anything close to Anderson this trade would be biblically moronic for Calgary.

Yeah, and Jonas Siegenthaler was traded for a third, too.
