At this point it’d be shocking to see him not moved. After his comments about his teammates play, Calgary’s poor performance this year, and the fact that he’s a pending UFA it seems more than likely that he’s moved. Plus there’s already 3 teams that are highly motivated to acquire him, only likely to be more before the deadline as he’s exactly what playoff teams look for in a rental. Then there’s the matter of the trade request and his agents comments… sure seems like he’ll be moved
Well just so we’re clear, Zadorov never himself came out and said outright, “I don’t want to be here anymore and I want out”
All he said is they’re discussing it as an option, because although he would love to remain and play as a Flame for life, there is a business side to the NHL, which only happened after management put contract talks on now hold
Like the character man he seems to be, Zadorov’s simply going with and supporting his Snake of an Agents strategy to negotiate the best deal for himself. His Agent implied, maybe he’d be better off elsewhere because management doesn’t seem to appreciate or value Zadorov enough, which although I don’t like his agents tactic, I don’t blame them for feeling that way and will explain that further below, but it’s an absolutely greasy tactic to go public like that
Since when is calling out guys in the locker room or apologizing to the fans for their poor play any indication he doesn’t want to be there!? In fact, that’s what Team Leaders and/or Captains should be doing. Somebody’s gotta hold them accountable and answer to the fans other than the Coach, who really can’t or shouldn’t say those things
My understanding is that they were close to an extension, but ownership said let’s pump the breaks on all contract extensions for now till we can get this ship back on course
Out of all Players, Zadorov is the only one to show any passion or commitment to the City of Calgary and Flames Organization, saying he loves the City and wants to be a Flame FOR LIFE. He’s also been playing very well this season, especially offensively, so when you tell him the contract is off the table and when your Power Play is extremely weak and guys like Hanifin & Weegar are under performing in a game and Zadorov isn’t promoted or called upon to help out, yeah I would be frustrated too, but it was his agent who implied it might be time for Zadorov to move, as again, a negotiation tactic
We’ll see what happens, but I see Hanifin & Tanev moving on for sure, which would open up more ice time, $$$ and opportunity for Zadorov, which is whatnot wants and if he gets it, he may just extend long-term
Zadorov is the type of guy we need and should keep, but if we’re not able to reconcile and move forward, so be it and like you mentioned, we should get a very good return for him, given the amount of interest we’re receiving for him
Here’s Zadorov’s actual words after the very next game when his agent Milstein put out that Tweet:
