MN doesn't have the cap. They're sitting on another 14.5m in dead cap next year.

Zadorov doesn't net one of those assets let alone two. More like a good young depth player like Abruzzese or Steeves plus the NYI 3rd and a 4th/5th for retention.

Yeah, you aren't getting that for Z lmao.

Try a 3rd and ZZ. Maybe a 2nd if the bidding war gets large

No way ASP is available in Detroit. Yzerman looks like he hit a home run drafting that kid. 😲

He's certainly not getting a 1st and Niemela but Toronto certainly isn't getting him for a 3rd and a C level prospect either. He has no trade protection and GM's love guys like Z for the playoffs, there will be a good amount of interest, especially if retained

You got him for a 3rd. I don't see that price going up by more than a round and a B prospect

Minnesota declines. With Rossi and Eriksson Ek they don't need another 2C. Cap space and future assets are more valuable and more in line with their window.

Noah Hanifin isn't returning no 2 1st round picks, And reports are that he's seeking 7x7 not close to $8M per.

Minnesota can't afford Elias Lindohm and he's seeking closer to 8x$9.0M he's not taking no $8,000,000 per.

And Zadorov doesn't return anywhere near that kind of return. He's not that valuable.

I wouldn't want to do that Tanev deal, but I think Vancouver management would do it if Tanev agreed to an extension

What we got him for is irrelevant. He's a far better player now than he was back in Chicago. Playing under Sutter and working with that skating coach took his game to a whole new level. He used to be a defensive liability that hit hard, now he's quite reliable defensively, a good puck rusher, above average skater, and still hits like a tank

How does zadorov go for so much more than Tanev 😂? Other than the anti-leaf (#rentfree) tax

This is a fair comment.
You never know what could happen at the TDL.
Look at what TB gave for Jeannot.... If a team likes a guy they can break the (asset) bank

It's all about interest. We saw what Chiarot went for 2 years ago and he is Zadorov without the ability to skate or well have any offensive effectiveness. We also saw what Schenn went for last year but I think the interest in him was far lower due to the amount of defenseman on the market, plus factor in his age and track record.

Obviously if Zadorov plays like **** for the rest of the year then his value goes down but I think defensemen will be in high demand this deadline whereas last year's market widely consisted of forwards

Precisely why i said a guy worth a 3rd round pick might get a 2nd and a prospect

And I think a 2nd and a prospect should be his base. I find it highly unlikely he gets less than that unless he mails it in for the season. And I think it is absolutely possible he gets a 1st in a bidding war

Flames have zero need or interest in Hoglander who would barely cover the retention in Tanev

Hoping for Bigger Prospects who fit Calgary’s identity than what’s being proposed for Hanifin & Lindholm here and we might as well retain in them to maximize their value and get even more pieces

A 1sr for Zadorov retained is sufficient. Don’t even know if we want Niemela or not. He’s Soft & Small for an NHL D-Man. He’ll just get absolutely clobbered/folded again and be on LTIR For Life

Schenn’s also old, slow and doesn’t provide anything offensively unless he’s fortunate to have touched the puck before Quinn Hughes

Schenn is a Big Goon and is effective in front of the net and on PK’s in his own zone but it’s not that long ago he was in the AHL either. He’s what’s referred to as a Pylon

Zadorov >>> Schenn

Possible? Sure. Likely? Not at all. This is just a repeat of the Luke Schenn thing from last year (big hype remember) - and we all saw how that turned out

UFAs don't get traded with extensions. Just not how things work.

Right, but their Agents are given permission to discuss extensions ahead of time, so everything’s pre-negotiated and they’re signed upon arrival. That’s how that works

IOW - You’re Right, UFA’s don’t moved with Sign & Trade’s like RFA’s do, instead they’re “so here’s what we want to extend if we get Traded there, if you agree make the trade’s”

Schenn Can’t Skate, Pass, Puck Handle or Score though…

I repeat Zadorov >>> Schenn

I can't think of any recent times where teams have given permission for their UFAs to negotiate extensions. It doesn't make sense for the team to let other teams do that when they can't stop the player from leaving in the offseason
