Not excited about the return for Murphy but also he’s not your guy. I don’t think he moves the needle for Toronto.

Realistically, Hawks are a sh*t defensive team and you’ve already traded for McCabe and now you want Murphy? I’m sure there are better guys out there.

No from MTL.

Don't need Brodie who will be ufa, will keep Savard instead and probably get a 2nd pick for him elsewhere.
Maybe Allen for Samsonov and 3rd can be discuss

I get they have been bad but Murphy has been playing with mostly rookies. Even before Chicago, he was playing on Arz😳 when they were still fresh. I think he would be a big help on a good team. Physical, fast, moves the puck well and clears out the front of the net. I think he would play well with Rielly.

I believe you would get more for Brodie at TDL especially if you retained. IMO

Not sure about that at this point.
He is not the same player he was 2-3 years ago.
but sill have some value, maybe the same as Savard. Actually Habs are loaded of LHD so I think they keep Savard until next year.

I'd try and keep Pezzetta if I were MTL, but it's not THAT big of a deal if he's included.

But yeah, I'd do this.

Jarnkrok and the prospect do nothing for the Hawks. Personally I believe Murphy’s value is a 2nd round pick bumped up to a 1st with retention. If the Hawks can’t get a 1st round pick for him then he has more value to Chicago by staying and sheltering the Hawks young d-men by taking the bulk of D zone starts and PK.

moving both Allen and Savard (who are still signed for next season) for essentially UFAs makes this deal worth it imo. Even if it's a bit on the lighter side for value.

The more flexibility MTL has this upcoming off season, the better.

That’s how I see it too. Habs want to start playing their young goalies and prospects. They could even flip those two for more picks at TDL.

Niemela is our top D prospect and putting up great numbers in the minors. I don’t think you can look past him. He could play as soon as next year

Everyone in the Atlantic says thank you for putting together the slowest defense in the league.

I think the Hawks have moved past sub 6’0 d-men who lack at least one exceptional skill, been down that road on several occasions and it hasn’t worked out for them.

Doubt they'd be able to flip Brodie. Not much value unless they retain salary. But MTL only has 1 retention slot left for this season (They are already retaining on Edmundson and Petry). So Hughes will have to gauge which of the players he intends to trade will bring the better yield if he retains on them (Monahan, Pearson, Allen, Savard, etc.). imo retaining on Monahan if he's traded will almost certainly bump his value up to a 1st rd pick or a top prospect, where retaining on everybody else wouldn't add that much (same applies for Brodie).

I absolutely agree. People just love to pounce on players every time someone releases a new player card, and CHI is definitely a punching bag for a lot of fans of other teams. On a good playoff team, with the right partner, not having to babysit night in and night out, he would be a very useful player and his analytics would look much better.

I've seen people call him "the worst player in the NHL this season", word for word, on multiple occasions in recent days. Which leads me to believe this was probably a talking point from some article/podcast/tweet and everyone is just regurgitating it now. But if they actually watched him it would be quite obvious how far from the truth that is.

haha. Well, don't mind if I do.

Analytics are a useful tool, but they are not the holy grail. And almost all of the analytics models out there are flawed in one way or another. They never tell the whole story. End rant. haha

100% agree. Some people live by analytics and I don’t get it. It is a helpful tool but to be used with a grain of salt.

Hawks decline. If that's the best offer they get for Murphy, then the Hawks just hang on to him.

So basically Habs take on all of Toronto's crap. Just to help them out a little.
