Who would you target if all options were on the menu

Created by: NHLfan10506
Team: 2023-24 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 8, 2023
Published: Dec. 8, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
In real world, the guys who are probably in the mix for NJD: Hanifin, Tanev, Carrier, Schultz, Middleton…usual suspects.

But welcome to Earth-2, where you can pick anyone.

Who would you go after?

(This assumes Dougie returns for game 1 of playoffs…)

Just examples below.
Trades
1.
TBL
  1. 2024 1st round pick (NJD)
  2. 2025 1st round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
Price doesn’t matter here because Hedman is not likely to be traded. Right now TBL has 29% chance of playoffs while NJD is only at 45%. So even in slim chance he were a trade candidate, probably not to NJ. Would be nice though.
2.
NJD
TBL
    Playoff Blueline

    Hedman - Hamilton
    Hughes - Marino
    Siegs - Nemec
    Bahl - Miller
    3.
    CAR
This was one back-up unrealistic deal…not only because of Division rivalry, but what are we going to sell them? A goalie?
      4.

        Playoff Blueline

        Siegs - Hamilton

        Orlov - Nemec
        Bahl - Miller
        5.
        OTT
Another, although five years would be too long as both Luke and Nemec would be on big deals by then. And he is hurt.

Term is good…unclear about availability. I assume he would tough to pry away…but Ducks are loaded with young dmen.

                Curious, what’s your Fowler offer?

I’m not trading him if it were up to be but I’m just a dude here on CF

His 4 team trade list makes any trade pretty much a no

If I needed to trade Chabot, my asking price would be a 1st and two 2nds in value.

I don’t know…never thought about it. The term is probably a complication as eventually Luke and Nemec will be getting big deals. If Dougie is out for the year, cap space in short term may not be an issue. We need better possession / puck control coming out of the back in near term, so Chabot was just a guy who came to mind.

Seems okay (doubt we would be able to bid).

Was just curious what others thought here.

Would love Fowler…but we would probably be a little early as Ducks kids are still proving themselves up.

What makes you think NJD isn’t among the four? We are very player-friendly destination. Close to big city, but 10 minute commute to very nice suburbs. Good schools, quality of life. One of the easiest travel schedules. And not so much darn sunshine.

If there was a serious offer…it would be from off our roster, so prospects and picks (throw in Gibson and you’ll get more prospects and picks). I don’t think any of the names that would fit Anaheim’s time window, and are currently in NHL, would be used as trade chips.

I’m not saying you guys aren’t making the 4 or even a team he would just waive it for, I was just generally saying that the 4 team trade list would make it hard for teams around the league if they tried to trade for him

I don’t think he is traded because of all the minutes he eats game after game along with being the most steady defenseman on our roster and a fixture since he was 18

I am also bias since I’ve loved watching him play since the start

If I needed to trade Chabot, my asking price would be a 1st and two 2nds in value.

The Avs have a player who was once traded for a 1st and two 2nds... Taco Tuesday on the menu for Chabot? jk

What is the timeline for Hamilton's return? I haven't been able to find anything.

Torn Pectoral Muscle. Has wide range of recovery timetables. Grade 1/2 can be only a few weeks. Grade 3 needs surgery and usually takes 4-6 months. Travis Zajac came back just over 4 months. Max Jones, Mat Dumba took a little longer. Other cases have varied from 4-10 months.

Dougie had surgery, so is at least grade 3. The most optimistic window would be mid-March. Regular season ends April 15, which would be around five months.

That's what I thought. CBSSports.com says at least Feb 15th. Which is very vague.

Ok...... TB doesn't miss the playoffs

I would agree with that…assuming Vasi is healthy. Atlantic division is hard one to judge right now. A lot of weaknesses with teams currently in.

(But this is Earth-2….and Tampa is shopping Hedman for picks here)

It’s not Taco Tuesday….it’s Tuna Friday.

May be the most available guy on this list. Sounds like they are willing to sell a dman other than DeAngelo. And Orlov is making 1st pair money playing 3rd pair minutes (of the 25 dmen in NHL making $7m or more, only Marc-Edouard Vlasic is getting less ice time).

I would move Orlov, use the space to add Andersen replacement and extend Pesce.

(On second thought, maybe I would just trade Orlov for Vlasic).

And people said that the Gudas signing was the worst contract handed to a defenseman this off-season. Jesus that Orlov signing is looking ROUGH.

I doubt we keep pesce. We didn’t sign orlov for this year we signed him for next year. He can cover down on defense after Skjei and pesce leave. Orlov’s pairing is inconsequential at this point. He is learning the system and getting more comfortable by the game. His AAV means very little because of the length of the deal.

We spent a lot on defense knowing our goalies aren’t top 10 material and now even less than that with Andersen out.
