Canucks decline.
Vancouver can't afford Erik Johnson and he is too old.

Retain 1/2 on Erik Johnson and we'll take the geezer at the TDL if we can't find anyone better.

Gotta assume Sabres are out of the playoff this season. So as good as Andersson is, really you're trading two first, two seconds for two full years of Andersson. That seems steep.
Yea, a retained Johnson look like a TDL deal.

Ah yes, Oloffson to the Pens, I remember that song. It played all offseason. He looks worse than last year and has been terrible on the PP. Why would anyone trade a 2nd for him, even with 50% retention?

A 2nd and B prospect would get you much better rentals this year.

@Chapee44

I don’t think Dahlin needs an “all-star” quality partner
Just need Samuelsson to get back to form

But at some point, you have to trade in some of the currency you have for established NHL talent, and I think the Sabres in this case would prefer to trade for someone with term at the deadline. I don’t think they’d be keen on parting with number ones though.

For Anderson though, I’d be highly interested in paying up some of the premium prospects. 2 more years after this year at 4.5.

Calgary declines because:

1. Andersson isn't for sale.
2. This offer isn't enough to change 1

And yes Dahlin's cap hit being more than twice Andersson's does mean we wouldn't trade Andersson for Dahlin but that's just economics and common sense, it doesn't have anything to do with which player is better or more valuable.

Olofsson having a worse year is simply just untrue... He's on pace for a nearly similar point total while having drastically better play driving numbers and a significantly increased defensive impact. From a simple standpoint if his shooting percentage regressed up to his career average he'd have a couple more goals and be on pace for a career year. Buffalo's power play as a whole has been horrendous. That being said, Pittsburgh is 2nd last in the East in goals for(6th last overall) and 3rd worst in the NHL on the PP. A team that has Vinnie Hinostroza playing meaningful 5v5 and PP minutes with a closing window should be interested.

I would do that Calgary deal in a second, highly doubt they would. I would even add another prospect instead of a 2nd if it pushed the deal. Worry about 2yrs when it's time.

His goals per 60 and expected goals per 60 are half of what they were last year. Why? Well 5v5, they are very similar to last year. He has been terrible on the PP. So why should one of the best teams (5v5) in the NHL trade for a guy who doesn't strengthen a weakness (the PP)?

You mentioned his defensive metrics look better. He ranks 218th in the NHL in expected goals against per 60. While not bad, and he has been slightly better than last year, that is not something that is going to wow people.

You last mentioned shooting percentage. His career average 5v5 and on the PP are: 10.2% and 19.3%, respectively.
Last year they were: 14.8% and 18.2%
This year they are: 13.8% and 0% (with an expected shooting percentage on the PP of 4.2%)

So he is shooting better than his career average 5v5 but is not getting there on the PP. The thing is, the Pens need PP help. So they only way they would trade for Oloffson is if they think he will come back to his previous form on the PP. That is a gamble and not worth a 2nd. Maybe a 4th or conditional 3rd.

I agree the Pens need an upgrade, but for a 2nd they can do a whole lot better.

He was drafted 16th OA in a deep 2022 draft. He hasn't done anything to lower his value and has been developing his game playing against men in SWE. He's worth a mid-first, or more, unless something changes.
