Vancouver 1st round pick (2024). No possible negocitation for less.

2nd best centerman available at the TDL (if you belive that's too much).

He will probably fall in the same realm as Barbashev at last years deadline. Which ended up being a prospect that was a late first rounder the year before. So a late first or equivalent prospect. Maybe a 2nd and a B type prospect.

i think right now the low realistic option would be a second + prospect.

The problem is like he is the 2nd best centerman to be available at the TDL, Montreal will gonna ask a 1st round pick as their minimum price.

of course they will aks for a first. doesnt mean they will get it. depends who is available, lindholm could be and will fetch more interest. dont sleep on novak too.

will he get a first? maybe, im just trying to gauge the minimum realisticly.

I think it will be a seller market this year. There not many notable ufa that will be available. Option will be limited but buyer are all looking for the same thing. Center depth and defenseman are look from all the contender. Probably last season a 2nd round pick would have been enough since the market had some crazy name that move but this year the bottom team doesn’t much to sell (Chicago, Anaheim, San Jose). Calgary have some of the best option available but after Lindholm, Monahan is probably the best option. If there only 2-3 options at center, i expect a biding war just line what happen with Chiarot. I wouldn’t be surprised to o see a team pay a first round pick.

The problem with Novak is that he didn't have any long-time experience in the NHL and have never play a single game in the NHL Don't forget also that he haved recently somes injuries problems. Also, I don't see Nashville trade for him.

Kent Hughes is a expert to create a market for his available players and also create on the same time a overbidding for his good available players. Also, expect that many teams (minimum 7-8) will gonna have a interest for adding a centerman in their line-up, and Monahan is the 2nd best available (behind Lindholm). Don't forget Montreal have no presure to trade Monahan or not, the management loves him and they are also oppen to resign him. They will not gonna trade him except for what they asking for.

im not saying it impossible he gets a first, im just daying that i dont think its the minimum for mtl to move him. i think they do it for a second and prospect personally.

If they don't trade him and he walks in free agency that would be a shocking move by the organization. So there is some pressure to sell but they are in a fairly strong position currently because he is one of maybe 2-3 centerman that will be available for sure. That said though as teams fall off there will be more players in the mix.

Also I wouldn't mention Novak's injuries in the context of Monahan whos had a much more difficult time in his career with injury.

Monahan loves Montreal and the Canadiens and the Habs management loves Monahan. I don't see any senario that he will gonna leave to test the free agency market. Just look last season, he was a UFA and Montreal resign him during the month of june. That's not really a scenario that I expect.

Zero chance he gets Lekkerimaki. No roster player that Montreal would be willing to trade would be enough for Lekkerimaki

For a bottom 6 center with an injury history? Good luck.

Monahan is more of a top 6 C and he is the second best C available. Worst players got better return in the last few years

Most likely a 2nd +

Absolutely no way a in hell a 15th overall level return as you suggested. Late 1st is potentially in play but most likely 2nd and something.
