i was looking at it as well, and i think we should have over a mil, close to 1.4 to maybe bring in a veteran backup for the run as well

Jenner at 50% retention would cost a lot. But I would ask for 2 x 3rd picks or something back if I were Colorado. You want 3 x 1st? Send 2 later picks back also.

Value seems correct IMO. It's almost identical to the Ryan Smyth trade from the Oilers to Islanders except they got two recent 15th OA picks and a 1st whereas this is a recent 28th overall and two 1sts. The quality of player seems pretty close too and Smyth was the same age as Boone now when he was dealt.

*To add a little more, Smyth cost 8.97% of the cap when the Islanders got him and only had him for one run. Boone in this scenario would cost 2.3% of the cap this year, 2.14% next year, and 2.04% the year after if it goes up another 5%. Pretty great value for the Avs and their cup window over 3 runs.

That is a very dangerous roster. Obviously dependent on Jenner being available...but so was mine. I'm hoping Landeskog comes back and looks like himself again.

I’d be absolutely ecstatic for this trade the cost wouldn’t bother me at all honestly. From what I understand Boone is a very good net front goal scorer very good ant getting deflections on pucks and is solid in transition. I think he’d fit well with Mikko on his wing bringing the more net front presence to mikkos elite skill and with nuke or lehky on the other wing as the 2 way forechecker.

Edit: this is me thinking Landy won’t be back this year

Colorado might be the only team in the league to overpay for Jenner given that they’re really the only team that can slot him into a 2C spot.
That being said, I don’t see Jenner getting 2 1sts + a top organizational prospect unless a team is REALLY desperate. With Colorado’s upcoming cap crunch in the summer, I don’t think they’re that desperate team for it. That may be the starting asking price, but negotiations start high and always come down.

I could see a 1st + Kovalenko being a good start, and then possibly adding a second tier asset from there, but the asking price of 2 1st + more is an extremely high price for what’s realistically a third line player

A 1.8 mil 2c pretty much solves any sort of cap crunch we have for the next 3 seasons. Even if he’s only an ok 2C for us the depth that it would allow us to keep is worth it

With the cap crunch coming, the high end prospects in the 1st round on ELC’s will be even more valuable to a team like Colorado

Two firsts is too much. I get that he'll be making under 2M, but he's a middle six player.

Maybe change one of the firsts to a second and put a condition that it becomes a first If the Avs win a Cup and he plays x number of games or something. Straight up two firsts is too much though.

The likelihood any of those draft help us in the next 3 year is minimal. A 50 point 2c for 1.8 mil the next 3 years we don’t have to move anybody and still would be able to field a deep team. I don’t think Jenner is worth that package value wise but he’d be worth that to the avalanche for the flexibility he’d give. We are insanely bad at drafting so odds are our picks won’t pan out anyway

I think making the 2025 1st a 2nd, then having a condition to upgrade it to a first if the Avs win the Cup in 2024 or 2025 could work. It's still going to take a haul to pry him out of Columbus and away from other suiters. Those two firsts are likely in the 28-32 range anyway, what are the chances those players contribute in the next 5 years?
